The Gear Bunker
As I continue to build my SR 762 from Ruger (.308) I decided to acquire a chest rig. I have a plate carrier already (which this rig can attach to), but I wanted something lightweight I could use while hunting with this platform (WA a .308 is good for all big game). After talking to […]
Let’s discuss pocket-carried / belt-carried flashlights. There are about eighty-six gazillion of them out there to choose from. The one I carry daily is the OLight M20SX JAVELOT. I won’t bore you with all the technical mumbo-jumbo, for I am not a professional flashlight reviewer. There are already many reviews about this particular product online from […]

Whether I’m backpacking, kayak camping or traveling overland, my first priority in the morning is always brewing coffee. I have a Black Rifle Coffee t-shirt that reads, “But first, coffee”. And that about sums up my routine in the morning. At home, my options are easy, Keurig or Espresso Machine. On the trail or shores […]
The weather on Mother Earth affects everything we do, from recreational activities to tactical operations and everything in between. How we manage the weather can influence the outcome of whatever activity we’re partaking in. The Kestrel 3500 Weather Meter is a handy compact instrument that is expertly calibrated to keep you aware of the weather […]
Looking for a minimalist front pocket wallet, but still like the old school bifold design? Look no further than the Recycled Firefighter Front Pocket Bifold wallet. My personal preference when it comes to the color choices is the black firehouse with Multicam Black Cordura around the edges. Simply badass. A Minimalist Bifold Wallet designed to […]
They said it would be a dry heat. They said 106F in the desert is’t really all that hot. You’ll get used to it they said. Mostly, they were correct. But I can attest to the suns additional strain on the eyes in the blazing hot desert. My eyes are already pretty sensitive to light […]
Readers may recognize the Bullfrog line by Kicker from a previous review I published on the BF200. I was so impressed with the sound and durability of this portable speaker that I wanted to try the smaller version for travel purposes. Measuring only 9 x 3.3 x 3.3″ and tipping the scales at 1.8 pounds, […]
On a trip to Costa Rica, my wife and I had the opportunity to get out and hike in the jungle a bit. With several water sources on our adventure, we felt it was the perfect opportunity to test the new LifeStraw Steel. Several notable improvements have been made to the LifeStraw Steel over the original version […]
Waterproof, Flexibile, Breathable and Lightweight. These are the four most important features to look for when selecting a waterproof shell. In my opinion at least. And the Interstellar Jacket from Outdoor Research delivers in all four of these categories. I’ve been an Alpine skier for all but a couple years of my life. Those first couple of years I […]
The Yeti Tundra has been an icon in the outdoor market for a decade now. With its “ice for days” capability, it has become an essential item on our Overland adventures. Easily maintaining the initial 20-pound ice load for 4+ days, we have utilized these coolers all over the place. The Yeti Tundras do a […]
It’s interesting how big a part music plays in our daily lives. Often times, a certain song will evoke a particular mood, or rekindle a specific memory. For me, songs can even taste a certain way. We’ve all eaten at restaurants with ambiance music playing in the background. What’s crazy is that I’ve found myself […]
I received my pair of Ridgemont Outfitters Heritage boots about two years ago and have put plenty of miles on them with no issues. The color scheme of the pair I got was the Oxford/Rust which gives the boot more of an old-school hiking boot look. There was a break-in time with these boots; around 1 week […]
I’m finally have time to post some of my camping gear reviews. COVID has been a bummer and unlike some other sites, we actually field test the gear for a length of time to get the complete picture. Does it stand up through repeated use? Is “product x” the best design it could be? Is […]
