The Gear Bunker
Firearms, Gear, Training & Industry Analysis
Over the last 14 months I have been testing the Keen Ridge Flex Boot on my photographic adventure around Alaska and in my daily life. As a nature photographer I find myself climbing over and around rocks, trees, mud, dirt and slime. All to chase small animals who don’t want to be photographed. While I’m […]
While many people may not be familiar with the Berry Amendment, it is a driving force behind the way they operate at Massif; from the components and materials they source to the manufacturing partners they select to work with. The collective years shared among the employees on the Quality and Compliance team in the military industry […]
The more and more I use my truck, whether that is for truck camping, roadside assistance or just hanging out on the tailgate, I realize the need for an auxiliary power outlet. Sitting there on the tailgate with my daughter the other day, she asked me if I have a battery pack because her phone […]
Suppressor baffles, also known as silencer baffles, are a crucial component in the design of firearm suppressors. The suppressor baffles are the part of the suppressor that actually does the work of reducing the noise and are typically made from materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, or titanium. The design of the suppressor baffles is […]
Owning a boat, ATV or RV can be fun. Recreational items are a great way to unwind and spend time with family and friends. Downsides to these items are the frequency of use and storage. Oh yeah, and cost. Unlike your daily driver that fits in the garage, recreational items often need to be stored […]
Everyone knows the importance of clean drinking water. So I won’t expand on that subject much. The trick is how easy and completely one can purify water. What if you had a container that you can scoop up 24 ounces of water from any fresh water source. Filter that water in under 10 seconds. And […]
For awhile I’ve been using a round stackable Esbit cook-set and have been more than happy with the little German stove. But when I recently opened the Esbit 1100ML Solid Fuel Cookset, I was pleasantly surprised. Its rectangle shape is very compact and reminded me of an old mess kit I had from the UK, but […]
(Photo courtesy of @defoorproformanceshooting) is one of those guys whose opinions I trust when it comes to shooting and gear. I’ve trained with him and can confidently say, he’s one of the best instructors out there. As shooting tactics and gear evolve, so does Kyle. Case in point with the Tenicor Velo holster. Kyle has […]
Best known for their bombproof Tundra coolers, soft-sided Hopppers and drinkware, Yeti is continuing to innovate outside the box. The Yeti Camino Carryall Tote is one such product. Like all of the products that roll off the production line, the Camino is yet another over-engineered and well thought out item. Made from the same “Thickskin” material as […]
Kyle Defoor previously made a Facebook post about his absolute minimum EDC. In that post, he mentioned the old school mantra of ‘always have a watch and a knife‘ that was coined by the Frogmen/UDT teams of WW2. During WW2, the UDT guys would do beach reconnaissance with only their dive knife and wristwatch. At […]
When I was asked to review another travel backpack, I honestly was less enthused. I mean, how different can one be from another. And it feels like I’ve tested my fair share of them over the years. When I opened the package from Able Carry, a relatively new Hong Kong based company, I was pleasantly […]
As of January 13th, 2023, the ATF released its final rule regarding pistol braces and the firearms they are attached to, and it’s just as bad as we expected. The new rule change is long, sitting at just 293 pages making it difficult for the average American citizen to read and interpret. To read it […]
Having clean water is necessary for a safe and enjoyable experience outdoors. One of the ways backpackers, campers and hikers procure clean water is through purification systems. In the spring of this year, UK-based LifeSaver announced they would be producing a small, lightweight water purifier called the Wayfarer and releasing it on February 1, 2023. […]
I was an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for over twenty years and a Police Officer (PO) for ten. I still maintain certifications in CPR/AED and Advanced First Aid. Back when I was a PO and EMT I responded to hundreds of motor vehicle accidents and medical emergencies. Back then our tool of choice was either […]
