As a seasoned night shift police officer with over a decade of experience, I’ve learned the importance of being well-equipped with reliable gear, especially when it comes to flashlights. Working in unpredictable environments, whether tracking suspects through dense woods or managing incidents on busy highways, underscores the need for dependable lighting. My standard equipment includes […]

As freezing temperatures consume the US, I thought I’d share my recent experience with a new piece of kit I was introduced to. The Atlas HeatTouch Glove from Seirus. Seirus was co-founded by Joe Edwards and Mike Carey, both avid skiers, in the 1970’s. And since then, they’ve been bringing unique products to market. Products […]
A few months ago I saw an advertisement for the Cor Surf Island Hopper Travel Backpack. Although I wasn’t in the market for a new bag, the advertisement and design really caught my eye. So I ended up ordering one. Over the past two years, most of my travel consisted of short getaways. Mostly road […]

We believe the best tactical flashlight, in addition to being a well-rounded flashlight, gives consumers a significant advantage in a potentially deadly encounter. Tactical flashlights typically have a tail-activated switch to allow users to quickly turn them on under stress. They are bright enough to momentarily blind an attacker and are designed to withstand harsh […]
The Vietnam era jungle boots I was issued while serving in the 75th Ranger Regiment in the 90’s were so terrible compared to the offerings today. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t just a bit jealous. The LPC (Leather Personal Carrier) is the Infantry’s primary mode of transportation. Also known as the boot. […]
Able Carry is a young brand that is quickly moving up my list of favorite backpack manufacturers. Their backpacks are very well made with high quality materials and stitching. And their pocket layout makes more sense to me than some competitors. The sleek low-profile appearance that Able Carry incorporates across the line seem to blend […]

One thing I never pack when traveling to the islands or anywhere warm for that matter is a beach towel. The conventional terry cloth beach towels are pretty bulky when folded up and are a “no-go” when we’re traveling light. My wife and I typically bring a roller carry-on and towels never make the cut. […]
We use personal headlamps all the time while camping, hunting, fishing or traveling overland. So I was excited when asked to try out a new design from Knog. The Bilby isn’t like any headlamp I’ve ever used and I wasn’t sure about the design when I first opened the box. But after fiddling with it […]
As a former member of 2nd Ranger Battalion in the 90’s, I’m all too familiar with the lightweight BDU’s (Battle Dress Uniform) that we were issued to us by the half dozen. They were a Nylon/Cotton Rip Stop uniform that was supposed to be as durable as the original heavyweight BDU’s but with less weight […]
