Dylan Reversible Shirt Jacket from 5.11 Tactical

December 14, 2023 by Timothy Gauthier Leave a Comment

A shirt jacket balances between a jacket for cooler weather and a casual Friday shirt at the office. This year, 5.11 introduced the Dylan Reversible Shirt Jacket in partnership with PrimaLoft® Insulation. The Dylan also stands out from other shirt jackets because it’s reversible, allowing owners to quickly change their jacket’s appearance.

Dylan Reversible Shirt Jacket Overview

Let’s begin with an examination of the Dylan’s exterior jacket. The body consists of nylon with a durable water-repellent (DWR) finish to help resist light rain. The Dylan Reversible Shirt Jacket’s exterior is quilted, giving it a distinct appearance. My wife has told me several times how much she loves the quilted pattern on me. The outer jacket also has four pockets. There are two hand-welt pockets and two chest pockets with snap closures. These pockets are big enough to carry a handful of small items without discomfort. There are snap closures at the Dylan’s center to close the jacket. Down at the cuffs, two snap closures adjust the cuffs’ closure.

The inner jacket/liner differs in style from the Dylan’s outer jacket. The Dylan Reversible Shirt Jacket’s liner is made from polyester with a DWR finish. As opposed to the quilted appearance of the outer coat, the inner jacket has a smoothed appearance. Instead of four pockets, the liner only has two hand drop pockets with snap closures. The hand drop pockets are on the left and right sides of the jacket. At the liner’s center, there is also a row of snap closures to close the jacket. Finally, just like the outer jacket, the cuffs are adjustable by snap closures.

Final Thoughts

After wearing the Dylan Reversible Shirt Jacket on different occasions, I am pleased with what 5.11 and PrimaLoft® Insulation have developed. The shirt jacket fit is comfortable for me; there is enough freedom to move around, but it is not baggy. The sleeves are a little long on me, but it is not a big issue. The brown inner jacket with the silver tan trim reminds me of a wool-lined leather bomber jacket from World War 2. Additionally, the shirt jacket performs well as a concealing garment for carrying concealed. I have not had any issues with printing when I have been carrying my pistol and wearing the Dylan. Suppose you want to add a shirt jacket to your wardrobe or a replacement shirt jacket. In that case, I recommend looking into getting a Dylan.
