Traveling with The Original Puffy Blanket from Rumpl | Arches National Park

September 19, 2023 by Erik Meisner Leave a Comment

Ever since meeting with the folks that run Rumpl at Outdoor Retailer years ago, I’ve become a huge fan of their products. Original designs, high quality materials and products that make camp life a lot more cozy. And when you’re camping with your significant other, it’s all about coziness. Even when I was in the Ranger Regiment, I had a favorite piece of gear that accompanied me on every deployment. My poncho liner…or woobie. Rumpl is all about the modern day woobie. Silky smooth exterior material filled with either natural down, or a 100% post consumer recycled material. The Original Puffy Blanket redefines warmth.

Arches National Park

Our recent Overland trip through Colorado and Utah had us camping in Arches National Park. So our natural companion was the Original Puffy Blanket from Rumpl in the Nation Parks Collection. Although the days were downright hot, the desert temperatures drop significantly in the evenings. Add a stiff breeze and it brings a bit of a chill to the campsite. Sitting around the campfire with friends, the 52″x75″ Puffy Blanket was the perfect size for an individual. Original Puffy’s are available in a larger 2 person size depending on your needs. On some occasions, we’ve used the 2-person blanket as a comforter in our roof top tent.

Various Insulation Types

Rumpl offers a wide array of blanket styles and types of insulation. And they’re not just suited for camping. Our living room sofa is equipped with a pair of Sherpa Puffy Blankets. A few years ago, Rumpl even made comforters for beds. Both our children still use them and I’m bummed that I didn’t purchase one for my own bed prior to their discontinuation. But the innovation continues and Rumpl just launched a revolutionary new synthetic insulation material called NanoLoft. This state-of-the-art fill mimics the qualities of down with tiny synthetic clusters that trap warmth for efficient, even heating.

Final Thoughts

With three types of insulation, three different sizes and a pallet of solid colors and prints to pick from, I’m confident that you’ll have no trouble finding your next blanket. Once the first puffy blanket showed up in our home, everyone wanted to claim it as their own. Which led to the purchase of several additional blankets. They’re lightweight and pack down well for travel making them a fantastic road trip item. The outer material even has a DWR finish to help shed a light rain if you get caught out in the elements. Making it the perfect modern day woobie in my opinion.
