The 5.11 Kumau Reversible Jacket Made for the Town and Country

December 12, 2025 by Art Dorst Leave a Comment

I’ve always liked military-style jackets and have worn them whenever appropriate, for both personal and professional use. One of my favorite jackets that I wore for years was an old sage-colored M1A flight jacket festooned with patches from my military service in the Navy and the Army National Guard. I wore that jacket for years until it was threadbare. I was looking through the new products section on the 5.11 website a while back and saw the Kumau Reversible Jacket. It had the same distinct style as my old M1A with a knit collar, waist, and cuffs as well as being reversable. Unlike the M1A, which only reversed to bright orange for survival rescue purposes for downed air crews. When the opportunity to get one for review came along, I took it.

The neck, cuffs, and waist are stretchy and are a rib knit that helps maintain warmth. The jacket itself is reversible with nylon ripstop on one side and nylon taffeta on the other. The outer jacket side is 100% nylon ripstop, 3.8 water repellent DWR finish that sheds moisture and prevents stains. The front zipper is reversible, the pockets have snap closures, and there is a small pocket on the left sleeve in the tradition of the M1A flight jacket. The Kumau is oversized and unisex.

The Kumau Jacket is light and fit is comfortable with room to move. It’s perfect for a cool day or evening, and with a flannel shirt or hoodie underneath, it will easily keep you warm into the mid-forties. It is windproof and light rain and moisture roll off it. The jacket I received is brown on the outside and tiger-striped camouflage on the inside. This makes it easy to transition from a casual evening out on the town to a walk in the woods.

For me, this jacket is a perfect blend of style, comfort, versatility, and is well-made. The Kumau comes in assorted color patterns and variations to meet your lifestyle needs. It offers a versatility not often seen in today’s clothing market. Personally, this is a great travel jacket if you’re going from a cooler climate to a warmer climate, where the addition of a base layer gives you options depending on the temperature. If you’re looking for a jacket with style and versatility, check out the Kumau Reversible Jacket from 5.11. MSRP is $98.00

Thanks to 5.11 Tactical for providing the Kumau Reversible Jacket for review.
