SOG Escape FL First Impressions

November 1, 2019 by Scott Witner Leave a Comment

SOG Escape FL

SOG Escape FL

Looking through the SOG website in search of another knife, the Escape FL caught my eye for a few reasons. First off, the all-metal construction gives it a unique and robust look. Second is the price. You can purchase the Escape FL direct from the SOG website for only $19.99. It was a no brainer to show SOG some love and order one of these bad-ass looking blades.

First Impressions of the SOG Escape FL

Out of the gate, I was extremely impressed with the build quality of this budget-priced knife. The all-metal construction does give it some heft, letting you know you’ve got a reliable tool in your hands. This is a manual opening knife (no spring assist or anything) and has a very smooth action out of the box. The frame lock is easy to manipulate as is opening the blade with the thumb slot. The pocket clip is the standard deep carry SOG clip seen on most of their folding knives and keeps the knife secure in your pocket. The pocket clip has the perfect amount of tension so that it holds the knife securely in your pocket, but still allows for a smooth draw when you need to bring this tool into action.

I’m going to carry the SOG Escape FL as my primary EDC blade for the next several weeks and report back with a more detailed debrief of how the blade performed and my list of pros and cons based on carrying in an urban environment for the foreseeable future. Speaking of carrying in an urban environment, with a price tag of $19.99, you’re not going to be upset if it gets confiscated or lost, you could almost say its an expendable knife. My suggestion, purchase a few and keep them in the bullpen ready to go.

Sometimes a simple, honest knife with a SOG Sharp blade is just the trick. The Escape FL brings just that. A no-nonsense, all-metal construction, frame-lock folder, featuring thumb hole deployment, built on a proven SOG platform. Escape FL is the perfect entry-level knife built to last.
