Orange Boxx Fabrication | Storage solutions for the FJ Cruiser

December 20, 2021 by Erik Meisner 1 Comment

Orange Boxx

The FJ Cruiser is a fairly small vehicle, and has its pro’s and con’s. Although this nimble little vehicle is fantastic on the trails it doesn’t have a lot of cargo capacity. Creating a bit of a challenge when deciding to transition from a full sized Tundra to the FJ Cruiser as our Overland Vehicle. Maximizing the available space is a critical factor and Orange Boxx Fabrication provides several solutions to help use your space wisely. Their forte is custom metal MOLLE panels for mounting and organizing essential gear in your rig. From the cockpit to the rear cargo area, Orange Boxx has you covered. Here we’ll focus on three products designed specifically for the 2007-2014 Toyota FJ. Three products that have helped keep critical gear organized in our FJ Cruiser.

Orange Boxx Storage Systems

Full Side FJ Cruiser PSD MOLLE System (Drivers Side)

Let’s get something straight. The rear side windows on the FJ are pretty much useless. In fact, rearward visibility out of these vehicles is horrendous at best but that’s a whole different story. So placing a full sized MOLLE panel over the driver side rear window didn’t phase me a bit. Since I’d never be able to see anything through that window anyhow. Installation is pretty simple, re-using three already available factory mounting points in the FJ. The coat hook in the headliner and two hooks in the wall of the cargo area designed for hanging plastic bags. Mounting this panel with the supplied hardware should take less than 30 minutes with basic hand tools. It’s this MOLLE panel that we mount some basic recovery gear, a fire extinguisher, a tear-away medical kit and tire inflate/deflate tools. Keeping everything within easy reach from the rear door opening.

Full Side PSD MOLLE Features:

  • Designed with our signature MOLLE or FIST mount holes
  • Original design from Orange Boxx
  • Thick 11 gauge material for years of abuse
  • Matte black Powder coating included in pricing
  • Starting at $169.98

FJ Cruiser MAX (Passenger Side)

FJ Max

As we move over to the passenger side of the cargo area, that tiny rear window I discounted on the driver side now serves a tiny purpose. I can just barely see daylight through if I turn my head. So I opted to leave it mostly unobstructed. Since our Dometic Fridge is mounted on a passenger side slide out, access to a Full Side MOLLE panel isn’t possible. However, Orange Boxx offers a product that creates a basket like compartment over the wheel well and below the rear window.

Like the driver side installation, Orange Boxx re-uses two existing mounting points to secure the top of the FJ MAX. But in order to secure the bottom, a pair of holes are required to be drilled in the plastic trim to mount a pair of support brackets. A velcro option is available for those not willing to violate this piece of plastic. Once again, installation can be done with simple tools and in less than an hours time.

The FJ Cruiser MAX is where I store my Mammut Kento Jacket (waterproof), an insulating layer, gloves and a hat for cold or inclement weather. Additionally, I also store my Nemo sleeping bag & pad along with a Nemo pillow. For those rare times I need to sleep in the vehicle. Storing personal sleep items in the FJ MAX allow me to access the kit without needing to leave the vehicle. The FJ MAX offers the maximum storage area available from Orange Boxx Fabrication.

FJ Cruiser MAX Features:

  • FJ Cruiser MAX is 7 inches deep and 28 inches at the base. We have recently improved the design of this unit this year.
  • The Max now comes with an end plate to keep all parts inside storage area when seat is folded down.
  • Store your critical gear both inside and outside of MAX area.
  • Keeps your gear off the floor
  • Matte black powder coating included.
  • Custom color can be selected from color link.
  • You will have to drill into the interior panel or use an optional Velcro kit to install this item.
  • Starting at: $135.45

FJ Console

Up front, Orange Boxx offers MOLLE solutions for just about any surface one can be mounted to. Our vehicle came with the FJ Console from the previous owner and I really didn’t have a use for it initially. Until Midland Radio asked me to test their MXT400 MicroMobile Radio. Then the FJ Console became my new mounting spot. Not willing to drill holes or screw directly into the dash, the FJ Console provided an alternate solution for the radio install since it just rests in place with no drilling. Plus, every MOLLE panel Orange Boxx manufactures features additional mounting holes throughout. Making the radio install a breeze. It’s also a convenient spot to mount a flashlight, knife or multi-tools.

FJ Console Features:

  • Center Console PSD
  • Powder coating included
  • Get your gear up out of the floor.
  • mount your pistol
  • Starting at $72.98

Custom Features

Just about every product Orange Boxx manufactures has a custom option for it. The customer can request whatever text or logos they’d like. As well as a full pallet of custom color finishes can be applied to the metal. Ensuring that your MOLLE storage panels will end up uniquely yours. Wether you drive a Toyota, Land Rover, Lexus, Nissan, Chevy or Jeep. Orange Boxx offers a wide range of high quality, fully customizable MOLLE storage solutions for your off-road vehicle. So be sure to check them out and get your rig organized.

Please provide the specs/list of all shown tools! Just bought Orange box PSD, and extinguisher and several other items. Want to know what the pouch is and the clamps needed. Thank you very much!
