Range Bag Showdown: 5.11 Range Ready Pro vs. Savior Equipment Specialist

April 28, 2026 by Scott Witner Leave a Comment

5.11 Range Ready Pro vs. Savior Equipment Specialist

When it’s time to invest in a quality range bag, two strong contenders rise to the top: 5.11’s Range Ready Pro, a long-trusted name in tactical gear, and Savior Equipment’s Specialist Pistol Range Bag, an up-and-comer with a growing reputation. A recent head-to-head review by Jens “Rex Nanorum” Hammer over at The Truth About Guns put both bags through real range-day use, and the verdict comes down less to “which is better” and more to “which fits your needs.”

The 5.11 Range Ready Pro (~$120) is the leaner of the two at 19 liters, designed to carry two handguns, mags, and a few hundred rounds. It impresses with refined design, a beefy main zipper, non-skid tape on the handle and underside, and a thoughtful pocket layout that keeps gear organized and easy to access. The shoulder strap is on the thinner side, but the bag’s compact profile keeps it hugged close to the body, reducing strain. Soft-lined interior compartments also make it a flexible carry option beyond just range duty.

The Savior Equipment Specialist (~$130) is the heavyweight of the pair at nearly 33 liters, built around three removable padded handgun sleeves with writable ID patches and individual locks. The standout feature is its lightweight polymer frame, which gives the bag near-cooler-level rigidity—stack weight on it and it won’t deform. Add in heavy-duty zippers, an oversized padded shoulder strap, multiple exterior pockets (including side pockets large enough for an MRE), and hidden zippered pouches throughout, and you’ve got a bag built for full range days with a serious load.

Both bags showed excellent build quality with no construction failures during testing. The real question is whether you want efficient, refined portability or maximum capacity and bombproof structure. For roughly $10 more, the Savior offers significantly more space without sacrificing quality—but the 5.11 wins on compact refinement.
