Why the Tag Heuer Aquaracer & WOE Glomar Explorer Strap is the Ultimate Travel Combo

Why the Tag Heuer Aquaracer & WOE Glomar Explorer Strap is the Ultimate Travel Combo

Regarding travel, less is often more — especially with what you wear on your wrist. I chose the Tag Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 not just for its eye-catching design but for its rugged versatility. While it boasts the specs of a traditional diver’s watch and can certainly be pushed into that role, it excels at all adventures above the water.

Tag Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Specs

  • Case and Bezel: The case is 40mm long and made from polished, fine-brushed steel. It features a unidirectional rotating bezel with a 60-minute scale suitable for diving and timing. The bezel is crafted with attention to ease of use and has a distinct but smooth rotational feel.
  • Dial: Available in smokey black or blue options with a sunray brushed finish and horizontal grooves, the dial includes trapezoidal applied indices filled with Super-LumiNova for visibility in low-light conditions. It also includes a date window positioned at 6 o’clock.
  • Movement: The automatic models use the Calibre 5 movement, based on the Sellita SW 200-1 or ETA 2824-2, and offer a 38-hour power reserve.
  • Bracelet: Comes with a three-link stainless steel bracelet. The outer links are brushed, with a polished center link for a contrasting finish. Includes a steel folding clasp with double safety push-buttons and an adjustment link extension for a comfortable fit.
  • Water Resistance: Both variants are rated for 200 meters, making them suitable for professional marine activity and serious water sports.

Why the Tag Heuer Aquaracer & WOE Glomar Explorer Strap is the Ultimate Travel Combo

I paired it with the WOE Glomar Explorer strap to match its style and ruggedness. Though tagged as a “dive strap,” it’s an all-around adventure strap designed for an active lifestyle. Its secure hook-and-loop system ensures that no matter how vigorous the activity, my Aquaracer stays with me.

Some have asked why I would opt for a cheaper strap like this over the elegant metal bracelet this watch comes on. While that bracelet pops with this watch, it also tends to make a bold statement and catch the eyes of others around me, which I do not want when traveling overseas. I prefer functional over fashion.

WOE Glomar Strap

The Glomar Explorer Hook and Loop Watch Strap are designed for adventure and activity, ensuring the watch stays securely on the wrist during vigorous movement. Priced at $45.00, this strap features a unique single-pass adjustable design that reduces the risk of spring bar failure. It’s crafted from ultra-thin custom matte weave nylon and has a custom 316L stainless steel engraved buckle and strap keeper.

The strap is available in two lengths to accommodate different wrist sizes and comes in black and admiralty grey colors. The design inspiration for the Glomar Explorer strap comes from the USNS Hughes Glomar Explorer, a deep-sea drillship used by the CIA in 1974 for a covert operation to recover a Soviet submarine. While primarily marketed as a dive strap, it is better described as an adventure strap suited for an active lifestyle.

You Only Live Once, Get Out and Explore

From a sunrise hike to spending the afternoon on a beach to an elegant dinner, this setup never feels out of place.

It transitions seamlessly through the demands of travel and the diverse experiences it brings.

If you’re looking for a single watch setup that goes the distance from style to function, this combo is hard to beat.

Some may opt to travel with two watches. One is for traveling to and from their destination, and the other is for having a nicer timepiece while at their destination. If so, I recommend getting a good-quality watch for your nicer luxury watch and keeping it in your carry-on bag.
