The Zeus Pro Jump Starter | Expect to Self-start, No One is Coming

April 7, 2024 by Timothy Gauthier Leave a Comment

My wife and I enjoy hiking in the backcountry, and one thing that has yet to happen to us is finding out that our truck’s battery died while we were gone on our hike. However, it is better to be prepared than caught unprepared and stranded with a dead battery. Uncharted Supply Co. has improved its original Zeus jump starter with the Zeus Pro to fill that need for a portable jump starter that can jumpstart charge 12V batteries and other electronic devices.

“This ultra-strong portable jump starter can get you back on the road when no one’s on the other end of the jumper cables, power your tools, and revive your dead devices via USB if no power supply is near.” ~ courtesy of unchartedsupplyco.com

Zeus Pro Overview

The Zeus Pro measures a little over seven inches long, a little over three inches wide, and a little over an inch and three-quarters high. The jump starter weighs 22.6 ounces. Its rechargeable li-polymer battery has a 20,000 milliamp-hour (maH) capacity.

At the jumpstarter’s front are four ports and an LED light. One USB-A output is at the top left, and a Type-C port is at the bottom left. The Type-C port serves as a device charging port and as the input for recharging the Zeus Pro. In the middle is an LED light that has a flashlight mode, SOS mode, and a strobe mode. To the right are two DC ports. These ports are for the cigarette lighter adapter or power tools with a DC plug.

Orienting on the Zeus Pro’s front, the power bank’s on/off button is on the left side. This button also serves as the control for the LED light. To turn on the light, press and hold the button. I can then cycle from flashlight mode to SOS mode and then strobe mode. To note, instead of immediately being able to turn off the light, a user needs to cycle through the light modes to power off the light. The EC5 output for the supplied jumper cable clamps is on the power bank’s right side.

Zeus Pro Performance

I have yet to use the Zeus Pro to jumpstart a vehicle, but I am sure it will perform to standard without any issues. However, the power bank has helped me in several instances, from running an Ozonics Micro3 ozone generator in my truck to charging my phone. I also tested the Zeus’ ability to charge a laptop with a USB-C power port. I started charging my laptop at 46%, and the computer was 86% in thirty minutes. One point to consider is that when I charged the laptop, the power bank had half its power capacity and ran out of juice while charging the laptop. The flashlight is also helpful for inspecting an engine compartment at night or as an emergency light with the SOS or strobe mode.

Final Thoughts

There are two things that I wish were different with the power bank. The first thing is related to the two DC port covers. While I like the inclusion of the covers, I wish there was a better way to secure them before using the ports. The covers are small and can get easily lost if care is not taken to secure them. The second thing I wish was different  was a better way to shut off the light. As a preference, I do not particularly appreciate having to cycle through the modes before being able to turn off the LED.

Despite these two suggestions, I like the Zeus Pro’s versatility, from serving as a power bank to a jumpstarter. Another positive of the Zeus is its compact size. I have stowed it in a daypack and still have space for other pieces of gear. For $159.00 $119.25, the Zeus Pro is a good backup tool in a get-home bag or a vehicle recovery bag. In my case, the jumpstarter will stay in my wife’s car for day-to-day drives, with an extra set of jumper cables, and then in my truck for our adventure drives.
