The Vault | Uncharted Supply Company’s 65L Waterproof Duffel Bag

February 19, 2025 by Timothy Gauthier Leave a Comment

Uncharted Supply Co.'s Vault

The Vault is Uncharted’s new 65-liter duffel bag for many adventures. When operating out of a base camp, it is a good idea to have a duffel bag ready to store bulky items or dry clothes that may be needed during the trip. Having spent plenty of time in the humid forests of Louisiana with 1-509th at Fort Polk and now in the Pacific Northwest, I know how helpful it is to keep gear and clothes dry when the weather is wet. Thanks to the Vault, this bag is another valuable tool to keep stuff dry.

“Designed to be equally at home in your boat or strapped to the tunnel of your snowmobile, the Vault is as versatile as it is durable.” ~unchartedsupplyco.com

Vault Overview

On first inspection of the Vault’s exterior, I noticed how Uncharted built the bag to be durable. Uncharted manufactured this bag with 840D TPU, making it waterproof and airtight. On the Vault’s top, you’ll find two removable shoulder straps that also work to secure the Vault to tie-down points in land vehicles or watercraft. The shoulder strap set also features an adjustable chest strap with built-in whistle for emergency signals. There are multiple attachment points on both the left and right sides of the top allowing adjustment of the shoulder straps.

On the Vault’s right side, one can find a small tag holder in the Vault’s middle to hold an identification card with contact information. I trimmed a 3×5 card, wrote my contact info, and slid it into the holder. The border of the holder is an orange-red color that catches and draws the eye to the card. On the bag’s left side, Uncharted placed an external pocket. This pocket is big enough to store documents or maps for traveling or camping. Additionally, both the left and right sides of the Vault have upper and lower carry straps and attachment points to tie down the bag to a vehicle’s roof rack.

“The Vault’s air valve allows compression of lofty ingredients, like puffy coats and blankets, and also doubles as a water spout if the case the bag is used to store or transport liquids.” ~ unchartedsupplyco.com

The Vault also has two handles at the head and foot of the bag for a two-person carry. At the bag’s foot, there is an air valve. The design of the air valve is similar to air valves on inflatable sleeping pads. Uncharted placed the air valve on the bag to help compress the bag when storing bulky items, such as sleeping bags or winter coats, in the bag.

To access the Vault’s interior, there is a waterproof/airtight zipper for the main compartment. I appreciate the addition of the beefy T-grip of the zipper’s pull. The T-grip’s beefiness makes it easier to open and close the zipper while using gloves or when one’s hands are wet. I also tested the airtightness of the zipper and bag by filling the Vault with air and letting it sit for three days. After these three days, the Vault contained most of the air from my observations.

“This 65L duffle features 100% waterproof construction and zippers. Its 2 internal pockets, 1 external pocket, keep small tools and documents dry and organized.” ~ unchartedsupplyco.com

Thanks to the 65-liter size, the Vault’s interior has plenty of storage space to carry bulky gear and any small items that a person needs to remain dry. I could store three unpacked sleeping bags, one summer bag and two winter bags, without significant problems. However, with the three bags, there was no more space to store other large items in the main compartment.

Additionally, the Vault’s head and foot have two internal mesh pockets. These pockets are great for holding small things that an individual does not need immediately. These pockets also work well to keep wet items, such as damp socks, separate from dry clothing or other items.

To test the 840D TPU material and the waterproof zippers, I first packed the Vault with several unpacked sleeping bags. Then I sprayed the bag’s top and around the main compartment’s zipper. After spraying these areas, I checked the items in the interior. As expected, the 840D TPU kept the bags dry, and no water leaked through the zipper.

Final Thoughts

After testing the Vault, I appreciate Uncharted’s design for this bag. For my deer hunting trip in the fall of this year, I’ll take this with me as a storage bag for base camp. With waterproof construction, I don’t have to worry about rain getting my extra clothes and supplies wet due to the Vault’s 840D TPU material. The Vault is also great for keeping gear and clothes dry on canoe, kayak, or snowmobile trips.
