The Rugged yet Casual Flex Canvas Pants from LIVSN

March 9, 2023 by Erik Meisner Leave a Comment

LIVSN

LIVSN is a relatively small brand with a big focus on sustainability, social responsibility and good functional designs. Living true to these principals, LIVSN has created a pair of pants that’s quite possibly my favorite thus far. And that’s saying something because I go through a lot of pants. Not necessarily because I wear them out, but because I’m constantly testing and searching for that perfect pair. While packing for a three week overland trip in the FJ to the Rockies and Utah, I made a conscious effort to bring only what I needed. Nothing excessive. And that meant choosing only one pair of pants. They needed to be durable, comfortable, good looking and withstand a week or more between laundering. So I packed my Flex Canvas Pants from LIVSN and headed west.

LIVSN – pronunced – “lives in”

Although the weather was forecast to be quite warm during the days ahead, my plan was to find campsites higher in the mountains which meant colder temps at night. So these pants didn’t just stay in the duffel bag for this trip. Around 5pm each day, as it started to cool off, I changed into my only pair of pants and long sleeve shirt. A perfect blend of polyester, spandex and cotton produce pants that are quick to dry, flexible with movement yet feel like a pair of jeans. The Flex Canvas Pants was up to every task that lay ahead. Not to mention, they fit like a tailored pair of pants. Neither baggy nor tight, this supple yet durable fabric hangs nicely according to my wife. Who is also my butt critic.

Flex Canvas Pant Features:

  • Durable and highly-mobile outdoor pants with a tailored fit
  • Built to be versatile, comfortable, and tough
  • Made with sustainable 7.3oz EcoFlex Canvas
  • Useful features subtlety integrated
  • Reinforced and refined construction
  • Over 1,500 pairs pre-sold in two Kickstarters
  • MSRP $119

Pockets galore

Well thought out and useful pockets adorn these trousers. Up front are a pair of conventional mesh lined slash pockets. But inside the left pocket is an extra zippered pocket hidden within a seam. It’s even roomy enough to hide a wallet or iPhone Max from those pick-pocket experts when traveling. The two ordinary looking back pockets also feature some hidden 2nd level protection. Well placed zippers, just inside the opening, keep your pocket contents where they belong. Great for hiking, biking or rock climbing. Moving down the outer seam of the legs, you come across another useful pair of pockets. Measuring approximately 2″ wide by 4″ deep, these slash pockets are perfect for a knife or multi-tool. Another thoughtful feature is the tab-and-button system at the cuff. For those impromptu creek crossings when you need to roll your pants up. Or just to prevent them getting caught in a bike chain. The built-in reflective tab-and-button has you covered.

Final thoughts:

After living in these pants for three weeks, I can comfortably say these are among the best pants I own. Hopefully they offer some new colors in the future because I’d love to see something in the gray tone. That being said, the overall comfort while driving, hiking, biking and just living in the Flex Canvas Pants was second to none. The mid-weight fabric packs small and feels broken in right out of the bag. Just enough built-in stretch and well placed gussets prevent the legs from riding up during highly mobile activities. The classic, well tailored design make these a perfect casual pant and the main reason I packed them for this trip. When paired with a nice shirt, the Flex Canvas Pant looks just as well in an urban environment as they do on the trail. As I browse the LIVSN website.
