There are times when a person needs to carry essentials but lacks pocket space. When those times occur, it is helpful to have a waist pack like Kifaru’s Fanny. When I was asked to give it a try, I accepted the opportunity since I was curious to see how it compared to their Rogan.

Fanny Overview
Kifaru designed the Fanny as a slimmer waist pack for minimalist EDC items. It has a volume of 55 cubic inches with two pockets. The front pocket is designed for quick access to items such as cards, pens, or keys. It can also store my iPhone SE with no issues. However, the trade-off is that a phone limits what else I can store in the front pocket.
The second pocket is for storing larger EDC items. The pocket is also large enough to carry a compact or subcompact handgun with a trigger guard holster. To secure the trigger guard holster, Kifaru added a webbing tab at the bottom of this pocket. To help with organization, Kifaru has elastic webbing loops to secure items on the rear of the inside pocket. In my case, I use loops to hold my phone and other larger items, preventing them from getting mixed when I am on the move.
On the exterior, the Fanny has two mounting loops where I can hang my key fob. Kifaru made the 1.5” belt from SecureStretch Webbing that has a little stretch for comfort. The belt also grips my waist well, even during runs while carrying the pack. Additionally, the webbing is easy to adjust while walking, allowing me to get a snugger fit after dropping a layer.

Fanny versus Rogan
The first and noticeable difference between the Fanny and the Rogan is the size. The Fanny is about a third of the size of the Rogan’s. This difference, in my opinion, helps to differentiate my use of the Fanny from the Rogan. With the Fanny, I have to determine which essential EDC items I want to carry. Whereas with the Rogan, I can take extra items, especially when out hunting.
The second difference between the two packs is the belt systems. The Rogan’s belt is stiffer than the Fanny’s belt for carrying extra pouches to prevent sagging. In contrast, while I can add one or two items to Fanny’s belt, such as a multitool or a knife sheath, I have to cinch the webbing down to prevent the pack from slipping down my waist.
