Stiltsville from Bajío | Sustainable Sunglasses

A good pair of sunglasses can make or break a day. Suppose they do not fit or function well with blocking the sun. In that case, the day can become less enjoyable due to the constant fiddling with sunglasses or having to keep one’s eyes squinted from the sun’s brightness. The Stiltsville from Bajío (bah-HEE-oh) is a new and great set of sunglasses that works well for land and water activities.

“Named for the ruins of several prominent Prohibition-era social clubs built at sea in Biscayne Bay, Florida. Stiltsville is also a famous flat known for phenomenal bonefishing.” ~ bajiosunglasses.com

Stiltsville Overview

The Stiltsville’s frame is sized extra-large and is made from bio-based nylon. The frames themselves are solid and do not have a flimsy feel. The frame also consists of two rubber-vented nose pads, two rubber temple tips, and two-way flex hinges. The rubber pads, tips, and hinges work well to secure the Stiltsville to a person’s face. I wore them while doing physical training, and even after working up a sweat, the Stiltsville did not slip down my face.

The frame’s fit is also snug, so there are no concerns about losing the sunglasses. I also appreciated the comfort of Stiltsville’s frame. When I wore them for more than an hour, I never experienced any discomfort where the temple tips rest on the sides of my head. Especially for long summer road trips, this comfort is a plus in my book. For example, on a recent trip, I wore my sunglasses for a two-hour car drive and didn’t experience any soreness or eye fatigue while driving.

When I first wore the Stiltsville, one of the first things I noticed was how clear and crisp everything was. What sets Bajío’s sunglasses apart, including the Stiltsville, from other sunglasses, are the polarized lenses with Bajío’s proprietary technology. The Stiltsville’s lenses are made with Lapis™ technology. This means Bajío’s lenses block the sun’s harmful yellow, blue, and ultraviolet rays. This combination results in the lenses reducing glare and increasing the sharpness of details and clarity. Because of the clarity, the lenses work well for activities such as fishing on the water or everyday activities like driving.

“All Bajío lenses block 95% of blue light up to 440 nm (nautical miles) and the majority of intense yellow light at its peak of 580 nm. This means no more hazy days and no more color interference” ~ bajiosunglasses.com

What Comes with the Stiltsville

Along with the Stiltsville, Bajío includes several sustainably made components with the sunglasses. Bajío supplies a leather case made from cactus leather and a microfiber cloth made from recycled water bottles. With these components, Bajío provides the means to protect and care for the sunglasses. I was also impressed that Bajío is committed to being sustainable by making the Stiltsville’s frame from sustainable materials. And making the rest of the components and packaging from recycled materials.

Final Thoughts

I have used a pair of tactical sunglasses as my go-to shades for several years. However, I have continue to focus on developing a lower-visibility EDC loadout that doesn’t scream former military. In my opinion, the Stiltsville is a pair of sunglasses that’s functional and fulfills the requirements I was looking for in a pair of comfortable low-vis sunglasses. For future trips where I want to keep a low profile, the Stiltsville will be on my packing list.
