Sterling Pacific’s New 40L Cabin Travel Case | Luxury Redefined

July 26, 2024 by Erik Meisner Leave a Comment

40L Cabin Travel Case

Traveling is a big part of my life. Finding the perfect luggage for various trips can be daunting. Trip duration, warm or cold climate, checking bags or carrying them on. These are all considerations when selecting the piece of luggage to be used. Fortunately, Sterling Pacific just launched a real contender, the 40L Cabin Travel Case.

What I’ve found is that my wife and I prefer to utilize carry on luggage for most commercial airline trips. Lost check luggage has burned us in the past so we like to keep our clothes and toiletries with us on the plane now. You can read about the previously reviewed 35L Travel Case from Sterling Pacific here. A fantastic piece of luxury luggage that I still use regularly. But with a few tweaks, the new 40L design from Sterling Pacific seems quite a bit more versatile.

It’s surprising how much more you can pack with a mere 5 extra liters of volume. Maybe it’s the way the luggage opens now. With a 50/50 split clamshell opening, I feel like 7-10 day trips are now possible with this piece. I recently used the 40L Cabin Travel Case for a week long dive trip to Grand Cayman and another week long trip to Mexico to explore the mysterious Cenotes. And I had room to spare on both trips. However, traveling to a colder climate with bulkier clothing would have changed things.

Features I like

The 50/50 split is nice. Opening the case on a bed or sofa allows equal access to both halves. One side features a zippered divider with a flat mesh outer pocket. The other features robust criss cross straps and chrome metal buckles. I typically keep my shirts in the zippered divider and pants, shorts and toiletries on the other side. I sometimes keep a light jacket sandwiched between both halves for easy access enroute or at my destination. I do wish there was an accessible padded sleeve for my laptop however.

The 4 wheel configuration is new. I wasn’t sure if I’d like it over the traditional 2 wheel luggage like the 35L Travel Case. Turns out, there are some positives to this design. On escalators or elevators. While in line at the airport. Or anytime you’re stationary but still need to maneuver a bit. However, when you decide it’s time to go, the castor wheels track very well in 2 wheel mode. This was a relief as we often find ourselves hustling through busy airports. The only downside to the 4 wheel configuration that I can find is on a shuttle bus or a sloped sidewalk. 4 wheelers slide all over the place on the rental car shuttles. And if you leave the case on a sloped sidewalk, it may slowly wander away.

The appearance and construction of this Travel Case is second to none. As a pilot, I appreciate the attention to detail, durability and design of the Sterling Pacific luggage. They spare no expense on the material used and the fit and finish is the best I’ve experienced. Several flight crews have inquired and complimented the luggage. And I’m always happy to share my positive experience with them.

40L Cabin Travel Case

Like most high quality luxury items, the 40L Cabin Travel Case comes with a hefty price tag. At $2150, you need to be committed to take the plunge. But if you’re a savvy traveller or flight crew, you’ll appreciate the exquisite quality and rugged durability from Sterling Pacific. All backed by their comprehensive Lifetime Warranty. When living out of a suitcase, there’s no home I’d rather have than the Sterling Pacific 40L Cabin Travel Case. With a 3 week trip to Thailand on the horizon, I may try to push the limits of this 40L case. We’ll see.

If the classy retro 50’s silver vibe isn’t your thing, be sure to check out the new stealthy all black cases. Either way, these beautiful cases are a real head turner.
