Scosche PowerUp 32K | A powerful off-grid charging solution

June 27, 2024 by Art Dorst Leave a Comment

We live in an age where being in consistent contact personally and professionally is essential for many people. We’ve got great portable devices that allow us to do this, the one shortcoming is battery life. How many times have we seen someone at the airport searching for a place to plug in their device to keep doing business. I’ve made it a practice that when I’m traveling, or even just out and about, that I have a means to recharge my phone to keep me in business. I’ve used many types of chargers, from early ones that were powered with a couple AA batteries to solar chargers. Most are good for short term affairs, but what happens when you need to be able to power up devices for an extended period or in an austere location. Meet the Scosche PowerUp 32K.

In 2017 I was working security in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. Power was hit and miss around the island as was the ability to get and maintain connectivity. I was working the night shift from 1900 – 0700 at a remote location with no power. To keep my phone powered up I relied on a solar charger which I’d power up during the day to use at night. Of course, during my deployment, I inevitability forgot to power it up. And ran out of power on my phone during the night.

What I could have used during that deployment was a power bank that could last a couple days and charge multiple devices. Enter the Scosche PowerUp 32K portable charger. The Scosche PowerUp 32K is a small, lightweight power bank that can charge multiple devices at the same time.

PowerUp 32K Specifications:

  • The PowerUp is equipped with a 32,000 mAh/115Wh Lithium- Ion battery with 110V AC output.
  • The independent USB/AC switch design makes the PowerUp safe, efficient, and reliable.
  • The AC button turns on/off the AC output, along with the 100W built-in inverter and internal fan.
  • The USB button turns on/off the 2 USB-C and 1 USB Type-A ports.
  • To use both the USB and AC outlets at the same time, press both the AC and USB buttons to the on mode.
  • It also includes a 3W LED light so you have a portable flashlight which you can use to see in the dark.
  • The package includes the PowerUp 115W portable power hub, 20W adapter, 2-foot USB Type-C cable, and a carrying case for easy storage and to keep everything safe and secure.
  • Use the power hub with mobile phones, iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, portable electronic devices, cameras, small fans, drones, portable gaming devices and more.

During testing, I used the Scosche PowerUp 32K to power my laptop, Apple iPad Pro-12”, Olight lantern, a small cooling fan, flashlights and a small heater. All of these were charged on an initial charge with plenty of power left over. On the unit there is an AC plug, two C USB outlets and a standard USB outlet. When using the AC outlet an internal fan kicks onto keep the unit cool. The cooling fan and heater drew more power than the other devices, but I believe would keep them going for several hours before running out of power. The unit can be charged from an wall outlet, vehicle power outlet, or with a solar power bank. Another feature is the built in flashlight, which adds additional usefulness to the unit.

Final Thoughts

The size and weight of the Scosche PowerUp 32K make it practical for carrying as part of your carry-on loadout. Or even for backpacking as part of your emergency preparedness gear. With a fully charged Scosche PowerUp 32K I believe that you can keep your basic devices powered up for a weekend out in the woods. Or for a few days during a power outage. Currently there is no reason for your phone or other devices run out of power. And the Scosche PowerUp 32K provides the necessary extended power capability. I will be making this part of my vehicle emergency kit to keep my communications going. MSRP is $249.99. Save at Amazon $169.99
