Could the Savior Equipment Obscura Be the CCW Pack to Beat in 2026?

Off-body carry options are a dime a dozen, but every so often a bag comes along that genuinely rethinks the category. The new Obscura Sling Bag from Savior Equipment, debuted at SHOT Show 2026, is one of those bags. Competitive shooter Kenzie Fitzpatrick recently put it through its paces over at The Truth About Guns—road trips, a thermal hunt, a shooting match, range events, rain and shine—and came away struggling to find anything she didn’t like.

The headline feature is a three-mode retention system. Full access lets you draw quickly via the rapid-pull handle. Restricted access disables the handle pull, requiring a deliberate manual tug on the clip. Secured access locks things down entirely, requiring you to unzip the bag to reach the firearm. It’s a rare design that lets the carrier dial in the right balance of speed and security for the situation.

Beyond the retention system, the Obscura is built around genuine ambidextrous use—the sling can clip to either side, and an optional stabilizer strap works on whichever side you prefer. The bag accepts most IWB, OWB, and hook-backed holsters, and ships with a built-in 1.5-inch belt strap. It comes in 5L and 3L sizes (the smaller fits most micro and subcompact pistols) and in four colors: Blackout, Slate, Crimson, and Indigo.

Storage is where the Obscura really shines for everyday use. A dedicated EDC Admin Panel sits between the CCW pocket and the front pocket, with a mix of stretchy and fixed pouches for wallets, knives, AirPods, lighters, and the like. The front pocket adds a key clip for added security on house and car keys.

Fitzpatrick stresses that drawing from any off-body bag takes practice. The Obscura’s zippers are a bit stiff out of the box, and finding the right sling height and pull technique is essential before ever loading it. Her recommended draw sequence: hook your support thumb under the top loop, pull down to add retention, draw cleanly with your dominant hand, then bring hands together as you press out.

Her bottom line? Savior Equipment knocked it out of the park. The Obscura works equally well for men and women, scales between two sensible sizes, and brings a level of thoughtful design—especially that three-mode retention system—that’s tough to find anywhere else in the off-body carry space.
