Rondy Duffel | Kifaru’s Answer for Airline Travel

November 14, 2025 by Timothy Gauthier Leave a Comment

Air travel with a hunting pack can be nerve-racking, especially if you have to take multiple flights. To help calm those nerves and mitigate the risks of damage from baggage handling machinery, Kifaru designed the Rondy Duffel for the traveling hunter. When I received the bag from them, I was curious to see how it performed in different instances.

Rondy Overview

Kifaru’s primary intent for the Rondy is to contain a fully packed hunting pack for airline travel. To meet that intent, the bag measures 34 inches long, 18 inches wide, and 13 inches high. Its empty weight is 4 pounds and 2 ounces, with a volume of 7,850 cubic inches. On the exterior, at the head, is a zippered pocket to store the two sets of straps when traveling. The duffel comes with two Xray straps, along with a duffel strap that allows for customization of how I want to carry the bag. To help compress the duffel, there are three adjustable K-straps along the sides. Ending at the foot is a small pocket to hold an ID tag.

Inside the Rondy, there is enough room to store items around a pack. Additionally, the lid features three zippered mesh pockets for quick access to essentials. In the middle pocket, there is also a concealed pocket for a tracking tag. Kifaru also added a quarter inch of foam padding to the duffel’s bottom to help add some protection.

“Built to transport and protect essential hunting equipment through airports, bush planes, boat docks, and remote cabins, it’s made to handle every transition between home and the hunt.” ~ kifaru.net

Rondy Uses

To put the Rondy through its paces, I decided to use it in several applications. The first application was as a range bag. For that use, I loaded the bag with a plate carrier, target stand, targets, and other pieces of gear. Even with the bulky items and weight, I had no issues transporting the bag. The four grab handles made it easy to move the bag around and grab it from my truck’s bed.

In the second application, I used the Rondy for travel during a typical air trip and during a hunting trip. For the normal trip, the duffel did not suffer any external damage from the baggage machinery, even with the duffel strap still attached. The compression straps also helped to keep my gear from shifting around, making it easier to grab and carry. During the hunting trip, I used the duffel to carry my Scabbard along with other hunting gear. I found the mesh pockets to help keep smaller items from getting lost in the main body, while also making them readily accessible.

Final Thoughts

As I build out my standard hunting packing list, having a separate duffel to carry my hunt-specific gear has made life easier. With the Rondy, I can quickly grab ammo and a bino harness to go on a short-notice hunt from base camp. Additionally, knowing that my gear is safer from baggage machinery is great. If you are looking for a rugged bag to protect your gear, take a look at the Rondy.
