Plano GoNow Storage Box: A Smart, Modular Solution for Organized Gear

May 1, 2026 by Guest Writer Leave a Comment

I was my dad’s first child, and a girl. This naturally meant that my early fishing experiences included a hot-pink Barbie fishing rod that frequently got knotted on all manner of things, likely due to user error. I don’t remember much from that day, but I certainly remember the sound of my dad’s grumbling as he untangled my line for the third time in twenty minutes.

I also remember my dad’s old tackle box. You know the one.

The two-toned Plano tray tackle box, with its plastic lid, faded to a chalky sheen after days of sitting in the sun. The one with the three trays that fold out like a vertical accordion, perfect for storing lures, extra fishing line, and cans of Wintergreen Copenhagen. The one that made an audible snap as it closed, and how it sat in our garage between fishing trips, waiting for his next fishing adventure.

For many in the fishing world, the Plano logo stands out as an American-made icon. Most people have some memory of their dad or grandpa’s old Plano tackle box, but as the company has grown, it has expanded its product line from fishing and tackle boxes into other outdoor areas. Most recently, Plano Outdoors, an Illinois-based company, launched the Plano GoNow system, a collection of rugged boxes, kits, and accessories meant to tackle your next adventure.

Here’s the Breakdown:

The Plano GoNow system includes customizable GoNow boxes made of heavy-duty plastic for your storage and adventure needs. Each box features waterproof seals, Plano QUICKLINK accessory attachments (see below), dual-hinge latches, an internal tray divider system, non-skid feet, and is made to stack with other boxes in the GoNow system. Each box also comes in three colors: charcoal, marine white, and OD green.

A Word About Customizing Your GoNow…

The creators of the GoNow collection wanted you to customize your GoNow experience, so they added the Plano QUICKLINK accessory attachment system to each corner of the box. This allows you to attach and remove the different GoNow accessories with ease. For example, the accessories include a cup holder, a bottle opener, and a fishing rod holder that you can easily add to the side of your GoNow box.

Other customizable bits include dedicated Plano GoNow accessories, such as a lid keeper for latching down items on top of your box, a cutting board that stows neatly away onto the underside of the lid, and a Molle board attachment.

Plano has also engineered a series of GoNow kits designed for specific recreational activities. For example, the Plano website features the GoNow 30L Freshwater Fish Kit, the GoNow 30L Camp Kit, and the GoNow 30L Hunt Kit, each designed with accessories specific to its activity.

For example, the Freshwater Fish Kit comes with (1) 30L GoNow box, (1) cutting board, (2) rod holders, (4) StowAway® boxes, a storage tray with (4) removable dividers, (1) internal divider, and (4) EZ-Labels. The Hunt Kit comes with (1) 30L GoNow box, (1) Element-Proof Field/Ammo Box, (1) GoNow Gun Cleaning Rest, (1) GoNow Lid Keeper, (1) GoNow MOLLE Board, (1) Storage Tray with (4) Removable Dividers, (1) Internal Divider, and (4) EZ-Labels.

Quality Engineering and Thoughtful Design

Each GoNow lid is designed to withstand significant weight. For me, this design is what knocks the system out of the park. I like being able to move around on my storage boxes without fear of my feet breaking through cheap plastic. More specifically, my GoNow box has been an awesome addition to my home gym, serving as the perfect non-workout-bench alternative for box jumps, Bulgarian split squats, and other painful exercises our friends at MTNTOUGH Fitness have me doing to get ready for the summer hiking season.

I also found that the small (30L) GoNow box travels extremely well. We added leather straps with buckles to the eyelets on my GoNow box and found checking the box a breeze. For reference, I am a 5’6” female, and I could easily carry my GoNow box, a backpack, and a rolling bag through the airport. For everyone in the fishing world, the Plano GoNow box would be a great way to keep your flies, lures, and hooks organized and safe for long-distance travel.

Lastly, I was able to take my GoNow box on a fly-fishing excursion with ReelFly Fly Shop and Guide Service down in Canyon Lake, Texas. The small (30L) GoNow box was a perfect container for our float trip, as we fished the Guadalupe River for rainbow trout. Although I had graduated from my hot pink Barbie fishing rod, I still snagged my line on a tree limb at least once. It did make me feel better to see the ghosts of other tangled-up lines swaying in the breeze as we drifted away.

This isn’t just storage; it’s an exit strategy – your accomplice in the art of escape. ~ planooutdoors.com
