MTM Survivor Dry Box

September 16, 2022 by Art Dorst Leave a Comment

MTM Survivor Dry Box

I recently purchased a few MTM Survivor dry boxes for outdoor activities and possibly used as caches.

The dry boxes come in either green or orange and either a small or large size. I went with the large size in green.

The MTM Survivor box has the following features:

  • Water-resistant
  • O ring seal
  • Padlock tabbed
  • Has three latches
  • Is lanyard and shoulder strap capable
  • Has a built-in compass on the lid
  • Made in the USA
  • The small Survivor box dimensions: 9.75″ x 7.75″ x 2.8″ (outside), 4.5″ x7.7:” x2.6″ (inside)
  • The large Survivor box dimensions are: 9.75” x 7.75” x 4.75” (outside), 4.5″ x7.7″ x4.4″ (inside)

We were due for a few days of rain so I decided to test it out to see how water resistant it is. I put a few items in it just for drill and topped it off with a paper towel figuring it would give me an easy gauge of how dry it stayed on the inside.

I set it outside and let it be for a few days of off and on rain. When I opened it up there wasn’t a trace of dampness in it and the paper towel was as dry as when I put it in. I didn’t bury it as my current thought on any caches that I would set would be concealed above ground for easy retrieval.

The Survivor dry box could be buried and maintain its water-resistant integrity. Although I would probably place items in a Ziploc bag or vacuum seal bag just for extra protection especially for electronics, firearms, or ammunition.

The large size box will accommodate a small pistol, extra magazine, ammunition, folding knife, and a few other items.

These boxes would also be good for any water-borne activities like canoeing, white water rafting, fishing, where you want to protect your phone or wallet.

Prices run $12.00 – $15.00 depending on the size and source.
