Merica Bourbon | The Sweet Taste of Freedom

January 4, 2024 by Erik Meisner Leave a Comment

As an American military veteran and business owner, there’s nothing I like better than supporting fellow veteran owned companies. And when that company produces American made Bourbon, it’s a major bonus. So what do you name a veteran owned whiskey company? “Merica”, of course. And yes, part of my job is taste testing Merica Bourbon which isn’t a bad gig.

Throughout our history as a country, whiskey has played several pivotal roles. George Washington used it to muster troops, pioneers traveled west with it, soldiers to war with it and our own government tried to ban it. I even think wounds were sterilized with it during the Civil War. Or maybe that’s just hollywood bullshit. Anyhow….Today, America produces several types of whiskey and Congress itself even recognizes it as a distinctive product of the good ‘ole U.S.of A.

I like to consume and share whiskey with friends or during a special occasion. This fall, 6 of us travelled from Michigan to Iowa to hunt some corn fed whitetail deer. Men, guns, deer, trucks and whiskey. What’s a better setting to test out the Merica Bourbon than that? Each night after a full day of pushing deer or downing geese, we’d gather around the large kitchen island and discuss the days events. Merica Bourbon went down smoothly in several of our glasses as we laughed our way into the night.

Weighing in at a stout 90-proof on the proof meter, I presumed that it would burn my innards on the way down. Well? not so much. I like being wrong sometimes. This bourbon was quite smooth upon delivery to my tastebuds and is one of the few spirits I don’t mind drinking on the rocks. The guys approved and before long, the bottle was empty. No better way to state your approval than an empty bottle.

  • Distilled with the finest ingredients and blended from our own stocks. 70% CORN, 26% RYE and 4% WHEAT
  • Our unique mash bills are created in Lawrenceburg, IN at the former site of the historic Joseph E. Seagram’s Facility.
  • We distill our whiskey with water drawn from the deep, rechargeable ancient glacial aquifers of the Ohio River Basin.
  • We ship our bourbon-whiskey to Charleston, South Carolina where we reduce harsh-tasting congeners, leaving a smoother, more sophisticated spirit.
  • Using ultrasonic energy and oxygenation after standard distillation, our patented technology finishes incomplete chemical reactions from the fermentation stage. You can taste our process in every sip of Merica Bourbon.
  • The process reduces several congeners (methanol, isobutanol, amyl alcohols, propanol, free radicals) and converts certain harsh-tasting acids to smooth-tasting esters like glyceride. This creates a spirit with a smoother mouth-feel and dramatically enhanced flavor.

Check out the Merica website and get at least two bottles of this fine American made, veteran owned bourbon. Because one bottle will be gone before you know it. And then you remember ordering two and open that second bottle. Your welcome! They also offer a whole line of kick ass t-shirts found in the Grunt Style store.

Happy sipping, and always remember to drink responsibly.
