The Gear Bunker
Firearms, Gear, Training & Industry Analysis
In 2019 I started hearing some online rumblings about a collaboration between Kelly McCann of Kembativz Brand and Spyderco on a folder. For those who are not familiar with Kelly McCann, he is a former Marine Corp Special Mission Officer, government contractor, security trainer/provider, and combative trainer with over thirty years of experience. I’ve had […]
A backpack with a larger capacity, such as Mystery Ranch’s Blitz 35, allows users to pack and organize gear for different adventures. For EDC purposes, the Blitz 35 provides users with options for managing and packing extra equipment in emergencies. For travelers, the Blitz 35 provides a backpack for short trips on the road. “Your […]
While your firearm is undoubtedly the star of the show, a shooter is only as good as their gear, and that includes the unsung hero of the range—the range bag. Gone are the days of haphazardly stuffing your shooting essentials into any bag you can find. The modern shooter deserves a purpose-built range bag, designed to cater […]
Ever since the COVID lockdown, I noticed one thing. People were getting cabin fever pretty quickly. RV’s, side-by-sides, Jeeps and car dealerships were selling through their inventory at record pace. People were leaving the metropolitan areas and getting outside. I too decided to spend a few weekends sleeping in the Michigan wilderness. It was so […]
When the Glock 43x showed up on the concealed carry scene, it was rock-solid proof of how innovative the concealed carry market was becoming. It’s difficult to know when one handgun can be called out as the ‘best’. You might consider the Smith & Wesson J Frame revolvers and the Glock 26 and a few other similarly […]
Depending on the season, I transition between my every day carry firearms. In the warmer months, I carry a sub-compact Sig Sauer P365 with an inside the waist belt holster due to its deeper concealment under lighter clothing. As the temps drop and I begin wearing heavier clothing, I make the transition to my trusty Glock 19. […]
The Streamlight QB Headlamp is a lightweight rechargeable LED light that allows you to work hands-free with 200 lumens of brightness. It’s grown on me since I got it and have found many uses for it including cleaning and inspecting guns, unloading a vehicle in the middle of the night, and walking the dog. The […]
As we commonly see in firearms training, weapon maintenance is a reoccurring issue, most often due to too little or too much, in respect to both maintenance and application of products like cleaners, lube and/or protectants. Personally, I pre-treat the applicable parts of my weapons and mags with Militec-1, clean and preserve them with RemOil, […]
I want to take this opportunity to do a complete, long-ish-term, slightly unbiased review/comparison between two sets of shoes that I have been wearing daily. It’s no secret that I am a fan of very hard-use gear, and I don’t mind putting my money into quality. I have a very nice collection of high-end footwear, […]

As a military security force member, you know that having the right gear can make all the difference in the world. When you’re on the job, you need a jacket that can keep you protected from the elements, while also allowing you to move freely and comfortably for long periods of time. That’s why the […]
As an avid fan and occasional participant of motor sports, I appreciate the fine details and skill needed to build a fast, lightweight and capable machine. Exotic materials like carbon fiber and titanium alloy. As well as engineers willing to push the limits of lightweight designs in order to deliver a winning edge for their […]
Short Barreled Rifles or SBR’s are all the rage. While most people concentrate on the barrel of their SBR build, they often neglect the other end of the rifle. The buttstock, one of the three critical interfaces with a shooter’s body can also be shortened for overall compactness. And CMMG has a new twist on […]
Safariland has been in the holster game for quite some time now and has established itself as an authority in the industry. They are world-renowned for their holsters and gear used by Law Enforcement and the Military. When they released a new line of IWB holsters, I was skeptical that they would be any better […]
