JetBeam E26 Kunai EDC Flashlight | First Look

June 19, 2025 by Rick Dembroski Leave a Comment

Jetbeam E26 Kunai: A Comprehensive Review of the Feature-Rich Flat EDC Flashlight

The Jetbeam E26 Kunai stands out in the crowded field of everyday carry (EDC) flashlights with its unique flat design and a suite of features tailored for both tactical and practical use. Combining white light, ultraviolet (UV) illumination, and a green laser pointer, this flashlight offers versatility in a compact form factor.

Design and Build Quality

Crafted from aviation-grade aluminum alloy with a Type III hard-anodized finish, the E26 Kunai is built to withstand rigorous use. Its dimensions—approximately 131.6mm in length, 29.0-31.6mm in width, and 16.5mm in thickness—make it a slim yet robust tool, weighing about 116 grams with battery.

The flashlight’s flat profile is not just for aesthetics; it enhances pocketability and ergonomics. The inclusion of zirconia ceramic glass breakers on the bezel adds a tactical edge, allowing for emergency glass-breaking situations.

User Interface and Controls

The E26 Kunai features a tri-switch system: BudgetLightForum.com

  • Rotary Selector Switch: Allows users to toggle between four modes—lockout, white light, UV light, and green laser.
  • Side Electronic Switch: Controls the white light modes. A single click turns the light on/off, while a long press cycles through brightness levels.
  • Tail Tactical Switch: Provides instant access to Turbo mode and strobe functionality. A half-press activates momentary Turbo, and a full press locks it on. Double half-pressing activates the strobe.

This intuitive control scheme ensures quick and easy operation, catering to everyday users and tactical professionals.

Lighting Performance

At the heart of the E26 Kunai is the Luminus SFT-40 LED, known for its high output and throw capabilities. The flashlight offers four brightness levels:

  • Low: 15 lumens, approximately 65 hours runtime.
  • Medium: 300 lumens, around 3.5 hours runtime.
  • High: 700 lumens, about 1.5 hours runtime.
  • Turbo: 2000 lumens, with a runtime of roughly 1 hour.

The UV mode is functional, though it emits some visible light, which may affect its effectiveness in certain applications. Here’s a free tip: Don’t use the UV light in a hotel room when you are in the field for your day job. UV lighting will make you rethink what “clean” means to the room service staff. The green laser, classified as Class IIIA, is a valuable addition for presentations or signaling.

Power and Charging

Equipped with a 1700mAh lithium polymer battery, the E26 Kunai supports USB-C charging. The charging port lacks a protective cover but maintains an IPX8 waterproof rating, indicating robust internal sealing. Charging is efficient, taking just over an hour (70 minutes estimated) to reach full capacity.

A battery indicator adjacent to the charging port provides real-time feedback:

  • Green: Battery level above 35%.
  • Orange: Battery level between 15% and 35%.
  • Red: Battery level below 15%.

Ergonomics and Carry Options

The flashlight’s design ensures comfortable handling, whether in a forward or reverse grip. The pocket clip, secured with two Torx screws, offers reliable retention, though it’s not compatible with standard aftermarket clips. A lanyard is also included for additional carry options for those who are fans of lanyard retention.

Comparison with Competitors

When compared to similar models like the Olight Arkfeld Pro, the E26 Kunai holds its own: Advantages: Higher brightness output, inclusion of a green laser, and a tactical tail switch for instant Turbo mode.

  • Disadvantages: Non-replaceable battery and a slightly bulkier profile. These trade-offs make the E26 Kunai a compelling choice for users prioritizing performance and versatility.

I have put this up against all of my daily EDC lights, and it offers some very nice features that others in my collection do not. Such as the ability to move the rotary dial to a true lock-out position to prevent accidental illumination.

Final Thoughts

The Jetbeam E26 Kunai is a well-rounded EDC flashlight that combines high-performance lighting with practical features. Its unique combination of white light, UV illumination, and a green laser, coupled with an intuitive control interface, makes it a versatile tool for a variety of applications. While the non-replaceable battery may be a concern for some, the overall build quality and feature set offer significant value.
