Gerber Fastball Review

April 30, 2023 by Art Dorst Leave a Comment

Is the Gerber Fastball a solid EDC knife choice?

I’ve been carrying and using the Gerber Fastball folding knife for a while now.

And it’s quickly becoming a favorite for situations where a smaller less attention-getting knife is appropriate.

Gerber Fastball Review [Video]

The Fastball carries discreetly in your pocket with its thin profile and lightweight, making it barely noticeable. The clip allows it to sit deeply in your pocket with minimal public exposure to the knife.

I consider this to be a utility blade for everyday needs such as opening mail, packages, and the myriad of cutting tasks that occur during the day.

It will fit into casual or professional situations without causing a panic when taken out to do a chore requiring an edged tool.

The opening is smooth and consistent using a flick of your index finger to snap it open. Lock up is positive with a liner lock. And releasing the blade is easy with minimal pressure on the liner lock.

I personally recommend using two hands to close the blade for safety. I have pretty large hands and the knife tends to get lost in my mitts when opening and closing.

If there was a change I’d make to the Fastball it would be adding a little texture to the grip. It tends to slip in my hand making opening a bit inconsistent for me. Although this could change with more hands-on time.

Gerber Fastball Features

  • S30V Wharncliff blade
  • Blade length: 3”
  • Overall Length: 7.1”
  • Weight: 2.1 oz.
  • 3 position pocket clip
  • Liner lock
  • Ball bearings for smooth opening
  • Precision detent for consistent opening
  • Black oxide coating
  • Aircraft aluminum handle
  • Made in the USA
  • MSRP $105

The Fastball is available in three colors: Black, Urban Grey, and Flat Sage. The price is right at around $100 depending on the color. All-in-all, this is a well-made knife that looks and feels good in your hand. If an everyday carry utility knife with a touch of sophistication is what you’re in the market for, give the Gerber Fastball a look.

Conclusion

The Gerber Fastball is a highly impressive and reliable everyday carry (EDC) knife that excels in both design and performance. Throughout this review, we have explored its key features and discussed its overall functionality, materials, and ergonomics.

The Fastball’s premium build quality, utilizing high-grade materials such as S30V stainless steel for the blade and aircraft-grade aluminum for the handle, ensures durability and longevity. Its sleek and minimalist design not only enhances its aesthetic appeal but also contributes to its ease of use and portability.

One of the standout features of the Gerber Fastball is its exceptional deployment mechanism, which utilizes a ball-bearing system for smooth and swift opening. The ambidextrous flipper tab and thumb studs offer multiple options for quick and easy one-handed opening, making it a convenient tool for various everyday tasks.

Furthermore, the Fastball’s superior ergonomics, with its well-contoured handle and excellent grip, provide a comfortable and secure feel during use. The reliable liner lock mechanism adds an extra layer of safety, ensuring that the blade remains securely in place during operation.

Whether you’re a seasoned outdoors enthusiast, a dedicated handyman, or simply someone in need of a reliable EDC knife, the Gerber Fastball delivers on its promises. It combines style, functionality, and reliability, making it a top contender in the market.

While there are many options available in the EDC knife market, the Gerber Fastball stands out as a reliable companion that offers exceptional performance and durability. With its impressive features, reliable construction, and sleek design, the Fastball is a worthy investment for anyone in search of a high-quality and versatile everyday carry knife.
