Ford Reveals Bronco Overland Concept for Adventure Seekers

Looking to hit the trails in Fords new Bronco? Check out the recent introduction of the Bronco Overland Concept

Only a couple months after Ford revealed their 2021 Bronco, they’ve wasted no time accessorizing this beast to cater to various segments. And the most recent build-out is geared towards the rapidly growing overland market. Nestled in the Great Smokey Mountains of Tennessee, Ford rolled in to the annual Bronco Super Celebration like a boss with their latest Overland Concept. A teaser of what a a few of the 200+ authorized accessories could look like when applied to their bad-ass Badlands Edition Bronco.

Bronco Badlands Edition

The starting point for this concept is a four door version of the Badlands Edition Bronco. Fitted with 17″ Fifteen52 Traverse HD wheels and 35″ BFGoodrich Mud Terrain tires, this beast will get you to those far out campsites. It also sits on Bilstein’s position sensitive dampers referred to as the H.O.S.S. system (High-performance Off-road Stability Suspension). Ironically, the larger Bronco is fitted with the smaller 2.3 liter EcoBoost power plant coupled to their 7 speed manual transmission. Although I would have gone with the more powerful 2.7 liter twin turbo. This little 4 cylinder engine makes a respectable 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Possibly hinting towards a more fuel efficient option for those extended off-grid trips.

Just below the iconic grill and headlights, this Bronco is fitted with a Ford Performance modular steel bumper. Plus the addition of a WARN winch. Two upgrades any true overland vehicle should seriously consider. Although the increased ground clearance and larger tires should keep you out of most trouble. A good winch is always nice peace of mind should you end up stuck alone. Additional recovery gear can be lashed inside to the easily accessible rear quarter window MOLLE panels. And if all else fails, you might be able to reach someone on the included CB Radio.

Built to take you there and back

Atop this Overland Concept sits an obligatory roof top tent from Yakima mounted to Fords proprietary rack. The rack also includes lighting upgrades from Rigid Industries. A 40″ single row light bar increases forward visibility while six additional light pods provide a halo of light around the vehicle. If that wasn’t enough, Ford continued the build by adding an ARB fridge on a slide-out and a tidy cargo management system in the rear of the vehicle. And it wouldn’t be and Overland Concept without a stove and cookware. Rounding out the build is a fold-down tailgate table and chairs.

Final Thoughts:

In all honesty, I was dreaming about an overland build for the Bronco approximately 30 seconds after laying my eyes on the original launch pictures. Although the Jeep Wrangler has been the king of off-road vehicles for some time. It looks like a potential dethroning is brewing. Ford has answered the off-road enthusiasts call with what appears to be a very capable competitor to the Wrangler. Although Ford did not disclose any pricing for the Overland Concept, the entry level Badlands Edition starts around $42,000. So one can only imagine what something like this would end up costing. And I’ve just been informed that two of my vehicles in the stable must go before I consider placing an order. Eeny, meeny, miny, moe…
