FIRST LOOK | SOG’s Aegis AT Assisted Folding Knife

April 13, 2020 by Kelin Ray Leave a Comment

Studies and Observation Group has upped their game with the next evolution of the Aegis line of knives. The new and improved Aegis AT (Available April 2020) is an assisted open knife that combines the latest blade technology with heavy duty performance. It’s ready to take on any outdoor adventure with the cryogenically hardened D2 steel blade. The ambidextrous rapid open lock makes it easy to deploy the blade one handed with pegs located on either side of the thumb ramp. Studies and Observation Group wants you to explore confidently with tools that will help you achieve mission success. In Greek, Aegis means shield or protection and this knife is a platform for today’s changing world.

Aegis AT Assisted Folding Knife Video Review:

The Aegis AT features fast, easy deployment and smooth operation. The simple design gives you more-with-less focusing on purposeful use and intuitive function. One look at the knife and it communicates a functional and minimal solution that blends with my lifestyle. The color scheme goes well with everyday clothes and outdoor gear. The reversible pocket clip and lanyard loop offer multiple options to keep the knife secure. An ergonomic handle and textured grip pattern make the knife comfortable to wield and places my thumb and index finger right on the controls. The Aegis AT is ready to go anywhere you want to take it and gives you confidence in any outdoor condition.

Studies and Observation Group developed a unique cryogenic heat treatment processes that decrease the temperature of the steel in a highly controlled procedure. This gives the blade increased toughness and wear-resistance, keeps the blade sharper longer and decreases microfracturing and edge-chipping.

“The AT XR Lock works through the balance of opposing high-tension coil springs. As you initiate the opening action, the force propelling your blade open becomes greater than the force keeping it closed. The result is a blade that springs completely open almost instantly once it is engaged.” -sogknives.com

SOG Aegis AT Features:

  • CRYO D2 Stainless steel blade
  • Durable textured GRN grip
  • AT-XR Assisted-open lock
  • Ambidextrous spine-mounted safety
  • Reversible pocket clip
  • Large lanyard loop
  • Weight: 5.15 ounces
  • Blade length: 3.7 inches
  • Closed length: 5.33 inches
  • Overall length: 9.03 inches
  • Lifetime Warranty
  • MSRP: $93.95 (Available April 2020)

“Features rapid blade open with ambidextrous assisted opening AT-XR Lock, ergonomic handle and grip pattern for comfort, and a cryogenically heat-treated D2 stainless steel blade.” -sogknives.com

With a firm grip on the Glass Reinforced Nylon (GRN) handle and the rapid open button unlocked, you push on the pegs deploying the blade rapidly while still maintaining control. By pulling the ambidextrous lock button down you can push the blade closed and activate the safety on the back to prevent opening. With the Aegist AT in hand I feel like I can confidently ‘get out there’ and will have a constant companion wherever the journey leads. The knife will be available in April 2020 with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $93.95 and is guaranteed for life.
