Epic Nalgene OG Ultimate Travel Bottle | 32 oz

Epic Nalgene OG Ultimate Travel Bottle

Aside from personal hygiene while camping, staying hydrated is a critical health concern and sometimes a challenging task on longer trips. Mainly due to limitations by the amount of water that can be carried practically. This is where some sort of water filtration system comes into play. And one company on the forefront of water filtration is Epic Water Filters from Boulder, Colorado. I recently had an opportunity to test the Epic Nalgene OG Ultimate Travel Bottle while camping.

Despite the Governor’s “stay at home” order during the COVID pandemic, State Forrests have remained open plus a stretch of nice weather tempted my son and I to get outside. So we packed up the FJ Cruiser and took a quick trip to a nearby riverside location. A perfect setting to test the Epic Nalgene OG Ultimate Travel Bottle.

Epic Nalgene OG Video Review:

“When we say Epic, we mean Epic. Our proprietary, multi-patented blend of filter media eliminates up to 99.9999% of the harmful contaminants other filters leave behind such as chlorine, heavy metals, industrial and agricultural pollutants and trace pharmaceuticals – as well as 90% of fluoride. Why settle for anything less?” -epicwaterfilters.com

With the filter attached directly to the straw and mouthpiece, the Epic Nalgene OG is pretty fool-proof. Simply unscrew the top insuring that it doesn’t become contaminated. Fill the water vessel from the water source, reassemble and suck the filtered water from the silicone protected mouthpiece. Since the filter is attached directly to the straw, quite a bit of suction is required by the user to draw water. It’s not as easy as drinking directly from a straw but not unreasonable considering you’re acting as the pump. Once the water filter was fully saturated, drinking becomes easier.

Epic Nalgene OG Ultimate Travel Bottle Features:

  • Removes up to 99.9999% of all tap water contaminants
  • Filter 100% Made in USA
  • It’s 100% replaceable, 100% recyclable, 100% BPA-free
  • Industry-leading technology tested to highest international standards
  • Eliminates need to buy bottled water
  • Stops 750+ plastic bottles going into landfills
  • Filter life: up to 100 gallons (380 liters) depending on average daily usage and water quality
  • Average recommended filter replacement: (3) per year
  • MSRP: $45

What Does This Filter Remove?

“It is designed for use with water that is non-turbid and non-stagnant. It removes up to 99.9999% of contaminants and pollutants found in fresh water supplies and up to 99.99% of other biologicals (pathogens). The American-made Outdoor Adventure water filter is tested against NSF/ANSI Standards 42, 53, 401, P473, and P231 for contaminant reduction & removal (see Outdoor Filter Test Results for more).” -epicwaterfilters.com

Epic Water Filters offers a full line of water filtration systems. From portable bottles suited for travel, camping or home use, to pitchers and entire home solutions. Check out our review of additional Epic Water Filters here. Plus, it’s comforting to know that the Nalgene bottle and the filter from Epic are both made in the USA. I feel in the coming years, we as Americans will begin to see more critical items manufactured in the good ‘ole US of A. I’ve tested several gravity filters, straws and hand pump water filtration systems. And the Nalgene OG Ultimate Travel Bottle from Epic Water Filters seems to fill a void in my kit. Its ease of use offers the hiker or traveler a lightning quick way to grab 32 ounces of water to stay hydrated.
