DMOS Mount for the Alpha Series Shovel | Keeping your Overland rig organized

This past winter I reviewed the Alpha 2 shovel from the DMOS Collective. After a winter to remember, I can unequivocally state that the Alpha Series shovel was a clear winner. Tired of buying those flimsy Walmart shovels that crack in the cold? Bent and broken handers? It’s time to put those days behind you and invest in a rock solid, packable, Made in the USA product. When winter finally yielded to spring, the DMOS Alpha 2 continues to serve a purpose. Thanks to the new Shovel Mount.

**UPDATE**

DMOS has been busy updating the Alpha Series shovel and recently released the Alpha 3. Below is a review of the Alpha 2 Shovel mount which is the previous iteration and shares a lot of the same features and build quality. Once we receive the new Alpha 3 an updated review will follow.

DMOS Alpha Shovel Bracket Video:

The Alpha Shovel Mount is a 3 pound all aluminum plate and bracket designed to not only mount your shovel, but secure it too. A pair of friction fit C-clamps securely grab the handle of the shovel while folded for transport. The simple clam-shell bracket can then be lowered over the shovel and latched. Furthermore, the latch features an accommodation for a padlock to insure no one walks off with your investment.

I opted to mount the Shovel bracket on the driver side of my VooDoo bed rack. Last year, I had a conventional shovel mounted in the same location. Now using the collapsable DMOS Alpha shovel, I’ve freed up a fair amount of real estate on the bed rack. Plus, I now have the ability to lock the shovel. Keeping recovery tools organized and accessible is the key to problem solving when a recovery situation arises.

DMOS offers several different sized multi use shovels on their website. Recently, at Overland Expo West, they introduced a new design. The Delta Shovel. This is the modern version of the old E-Tool (entrenching tool) we used to carry in the military. This indestructible shovel is full sized yet collapsible for easy portability. And constructed from 6061 aircraft grade aluminum or 16 gauge carbon steel. I ended up purchasing one of each during the KickStarter campaign.
