The Gear Bunker
As is common with us all, we love our gear and we can’t get enough. A common discussion in our Facebook group, The Protective Security Group, is travel gear and equipment. While not meant to be a comprehensive or ‘cookie-cutter’ list, below I share a typical packing of my ‘go-bag’ travel pack which I hope you […]
Ever since my time back in the Army, when I was issued my first pair of Oakley Gas Cans, I’ve become a connoisseur of sunglasses. From Ray Ban to Oakley, I’ve tried and worn them all. In fact, prior to this product review, I had never worn a pair of Costa sunglasses. Honestly, I had […]
Originally founded in 1979 under the name Bali-Song, this California knife manufacture was best known for their quality butterfly knives. Moving their way up the west coast and finally settling in Oregon in the 1990’s with Benchmade as their new company name. Although Benchmade currently offers a wide selection of knives, they still pay tribute […]

When my family goes camping we like to take a mini-bbq which runs off of a small propane tank with us. This is great if we have the room in our vehicle, and we plan on driving right up to our campsite. When I am hunting I usually leave this bbq at home because there […]

It all started for me back in the early 90’s while living in Washington State. I grew up in a military family and moved all over the world. But Washington is where I graduated from high school and spent my time in the 2nd Ranger Battalion. A beautiful place with snow-capped peaks, endless evergreen forests […]
I’ve not only seen a lot of rescue tools, I’ve used a few as well. In the Ranger Regiment, we practiced extracting pilots and soldiers from aircraft and other vehicles. When you have a dedicated C-SAR (Combat-Search And Rescue) team, you have the luxury of having all the tools necessary plus the personal to operate […]
The Nemo Cloudview Hammock is by far the best lounging hammock for your backyard or family car camping trip. Setup is much easier and quicker than those cumbersome hammocks with wooden or metal frames. Once you have the spreader bars installed on each side and get the hammock hung between two trees, the tension adjustment […]

These lights ship with a 16340 lithium-ion battery that recharges inside the light, providing a potent 400 lumens of output. If you don’t have the time […]
Typically, when I stumble into the Nemo Equipment display at Outdoor Retailer, I’m looking for cutting edge lightweight camping gear. After all, that’s kinda their shtick. I own a lightweight tent and a down sleeping bag from Nemo and they rock in every way possible. What I didn’t expect, was to be drawn to an […]
