Black Friday Sale | 35% OFF Olight BALDR Pro R

Olights latest update to the BALDR line of weapon lights is the BALDR Pro R. See our previous review of the BALDR Pro here. Both old and new BALDR Pro’s feature a white LED light and green laser combo. This latest version moved the green laser inside of the light housing, making it much lower profile that its predecessor. (see below) By streamlining the overall design, Olight was able to incorporate their clever magnetic charging system. Now, the BALDR Pro R utilizes an onboard 3.6V 1000mAh Rechargeable Lithium Polymer Battery. Rather than a pair of replaceable CR123’s. This could be considered a pro or a con depending on the application.

Available: Nov 24, 2021, 8p EST – Nov 29, 2021, 11:59p EST

In addition to incorporating magnetic charging, this updated design accepts the use of Olight’s optional magnetic remote switch. Allowing use of this light on a long gun in addition to a pistol. With a max lumen output of 1350Lm and a beam throw of 200 meters, the new BALDR Pro R makes a better companion for a home defense pistol in my opinion. I still feel the Odin series is better suited for long gun applications. The MAX lumens is available for the first 1.5 minutes on a fully charged battery. The BALDR Pro R automatically reduces output to 500 Lm for the next 40 minutes. Then again to 300 Lm for the remaining 13 minutes.

Double tapping the ambidextrous tail switch when the light is on will toggle between high and low light outputs. The maximum run time of the white light is 93 minutes when set to the 300 Lm low setting. Pressing both tail switches simultaneously will activate a dizzying strobe light. And a singe press of either button will turn the strobe off. Pressing and holding either switch will activate momentary on for as long as the switch is pressed. While a quick press and release of the tail switch will activate constant on and off. The buttons on the BALDR Pro R have a nice positive click feel to them.

The BALDR Pro R uses Olights reliable quick release mechanism to secure the light to a picatinny rail or Glock handgun. Both adapters are included with the light. Although a lower profile is achieved by relocating the laser into the light housing, an overall increase in length is the compromise. With the ability to switch between light only, light/laser and laser only, a new switch had to be added. A rotating selector can be found by the light head, thus adding to the overall length. A slight downward angle to the lens hood now shields the lens from muzzle blast, keeping it cleaner when shooting.

Olight offers a well built and functional weapons light for the price. I have had zero issues to date with the various lights I’ve been using. I don’t punish everything I own to simulate how we used gear in the Ranger Regiment. But there are plenty of torture test videos floating around for your viewing pleasure. The fairly low IPX4 rating would be my biggest concern when it comes to durability. IPX4 = Splash Resistant from all directions. That being said, I still plan to use this on my primary home defense pistol (FNX-45). Hopefully I’ll never have to use it outside of training.
