Beyond Clothings Prima Lochi Reversible Jacket | Split personalities

April 29, 2023 by Erik Meisner Leave a Comment

Prima Lochi

For the most part, I’ve never been a fan of reversible jackets. They’ve been around forever but never executed very well in my opinion. You can always tell which side was designated as the primary and which one was clearly an after thought. Beyond Clothing of Seattle, Washington might have just changed my opinion on these jackets. Made with premium fabrics and insulation in an affordable package, the K3 Prima Lochi is a versatile 2-in-1 jacket that can operate in multiple theaters.

Quality Materials

With a durable outer layer of quilted 70D ripstop nylon, the Prima Lochi provides protection from the elements as well as bumps and scrapes. The attached hood and DWR coating helps shed a light rain and offers additional protection from the wind. Where Beyond really steps it up is the use of Polartec® Alpha® Insulation. This premium insulation keeps you warm while wicking moisture off your body and allowing it to transfer out. Ultimately keeping you warmer without adding too much bulk.

Offered in a trio of color combinations, I chose the Rustic Green / US1928 Winter Camouflage. Feeling I’d get more use from this combination based on the climate I live in, Since receiving the Lochi, I’ve been stalking around the surrounding wood line like a hungry snow leopard. At least that’s the way I felt. Paired with Beyonds Woodland Camouflage Maker’s Pants, this combo is comfortable, durable, warm enough and functional.

High quality zippers are used throughout the Lochi Jacket. The main zipper features a single wind flap on the inside of the Rustic Green layer and therefore, the outside of the US1928 layer. By manufacturing it this way, the US1928 wind flap hides the green zipper from view maintaining its more stealthy appearance. Zippered hand pockets are generously cut and functional on both sides and once again, not too bulky.

With the ability to quickly reverse the jacket and change the look, the versatility is doubled. And with a price point of $185, the value is increased by double yet you’ll only require a single hanger to store these two jackets. I recently purchased an Army Green FJ Cruiser for Overland use and this Rustic Green jacket makes a good color matched general purpose piece to carry along all year.

K3 – PRIMA USE GUIDE

  3. BENEFIT OVER OTHER LAYERS: The Prima jacket features breathable insulation which can be worn when active or static.

Sizing is pretty standard but I find myself either too fat for a Large yet not quite fat enough for the XL I was sent. Fortunately, the sleeves are long enough not to ride up during active movement, which is a pet peeve of mine. Although the hood lacks any type of pull cord to adjust, the fit is pretty good with just the elastic opening. Overall, I really like the K3 Prima Lochi Jacket and it’s in my daily rotation moving forward.
