Baldr RL Mini from Olight | Light Laser combo for your compact pistol

May 1, 2021 by Erik Meisner Leave a Comment

Baldr RL Mini

New from Olight is a super compact high lumen weapon light with the addition of an integrated red laser. The Baldr RL Mini. This mini sized pistol light is designed for use on compact and sub-compact pistols. While still delivering full size power from the powerful LED. 600 lumen with a 130 meter throw to be exact. The same lumen output as the previously reviewed PL MINI-2 Valkyrie but with a bit further light throw. Plus the addition of a high output red laser to further enhance low light aiming and accuracy.

High visibility Red Laser and 600-lumen white light combo featuring a 130-meter beam distance

Olight incorporated a clever slide switch on the bottom of the Baldr RL Mini. Allowing the shooter to select between laser, light or a combination of both light and laser. Additionally, the lights activation switch is ambidextrous and can be toggled from either side of the trigger guard with the trigger finger. A quick tap downward activates the light on or off. While holding the switch down utilizes the momentary light feature. A nice feature when scanning an area or moving through a dark house.

Mounting the Baldr RL Mini is simple with an adjustable sliding quick release. Allowing the user to slide the light froward and aft once mounted to the rail. Giving the Baldr RL the ability to be mounted on a wide range of pistol sizes. Additionally, Olight includes hardware adapters to mount on both 1913 rail as well as Glock’s proprietary rail system. Several different set screws are included in the hardware pack for a more secure mount once placed on a pistol. Along with an allen key to adjust the red laser.

The built in 230 mAh Lithium Polymer battery provides enough juice for about 40 minutes of total run-time. Keep in mind, the RL Mini will only provide 1 minute of light at 600 lumen power before reducing to 100 lumen for the remaining 39 minutes. This makes the Baldr RL Mini perfect for a home defense weapon. Max bright for a short period to blind and stun an intruder. And plenty of 100 lumen power to move about in the dark. Recharging the battery is made simple with Olights magnetic USB cable. Which simply snaps into place when close to the light.

Final thoughts:

At only 3.21 ounces, this little weapon light finds its new home on my Glock 19. With a length of only 2.24 inches, the Baldr RL does not extend past the frame of the compact Glock. Keeping a very streamlined appearance and not extending too far forward. The IPX4 waterproof rating is pretty low in my opinion but I’m always judging things from a more tactical perspective. Therefore I wouldn’t recommend it for a duty weapon. But as an addition to a home defense weapon? I think the Baldr RL Mini would be an excellent companion.
