Atlas HeatTouch Gloves from Seirus | No more frozen fingers

December 7, 2023 by Erik Meisner Leave a Comment

HeatTouch

As freezing temperatures consume the US, I thought I’d share my recent experience with a new piece of kit I was introduced to. The Atlas HeatTouch Glove from Seirus. Seirus was co-founded by Joe Edwards and Mike Carey, both avid skiers, in the 1970’s. And since then, they’ve been bringing unique products to market. Products that help improve our active lives in the winter. One of their latest innovations is the Atlas Glove featuring HeatTouch technology. As an avid skier myself, I can tell you that the two biggest hurdles I face on the mountain is keeping my fingers and toes warm.

“Whether it’s a day on the mountain, or just shoveling the driveway. Heated gloves for everyone” ~seirus.com

The Atlas Glove addresses the cold digits in a way I’ve never experienced before. For years I’ve tried heated garments yet was never really impressed. They typically had a large cumbersome battery and the heating elements were nothing more than wires routed throughout the garment. HeatTouch is different and this is why it works. A flexible fusion heat panel wraps the back of the hand, fingers and around the finger tips. Warming just the areas that need it. Nothing bulky at all. You can’t even feel where the heat elements are located while wearing the Atlas Gloves.

Atlas HeatTouch Glove Overview Video:

Powering the Atlas HeatTouch Gloves is a slim yet powerful 7.4 volt Lithium Polymer 2200mAh battery. Each glove requires one battery that is captured in a pocket located on the palm side of the gauntlet. The part of the glove that typically overlaps the cuff of a jacket. An appropriate sized compartment secures the battery. And it’s all sealed with a waterproof zipper. Once plugged in and powered up, the manufacturer states the following run times per setting: 2+ hours set to HIGH (Red). Or 4+ hours on Medium (Yellow) And finally, if you set the Atlas Gloves to the lowest setting (Green), over 6 hours of heating can be achieved.

All this fancy heat technology isn’t worth shit if the manufacturer cuts corners on the glove itself. Fortunately, Seirus provides a worthy mate for their HeatTouch technology. Although the Atlas appears to be one of Seirus’s entry level heated glove, it is designed to work in some pretty extreme conditions. This waterproof/breathable soft-shell stretch glove utilizes 240g Heatlock insulation. And a Toughtek “leather” palm with Soundtouch. Allowing the wearer to manipulate a touch screen on a phone or tablet. I found this to be a little difficult as the large fingers are hard to target small buttons on my iPhone. But the technology does in fact work. So no more removing a glove to simply answer a call while on the chairlift. Finally, an ample gauntlet with adjustable cuff keep the snow out and warmth in.

Atlas HeatTouch Glove Specs:

  • INSULATION: 240g Heatlock™
  • INSERT: DryHand waterproof/breathable
  • SHELL: Softshell/Mechanical Poly Stretch
  • PALM: Toughtek with Soundtouch™
  • Three Settings. Thin Battery. Hours of Heat.
  • Green – Low 6 + hours
  • Yellow – Medium 4 + hours
  • Red – High 2 + hours

Final Thoughts:

I found the Atlas Gloves to be true to size and comfortable to wear for long periods of time. The advertised heat times appear to be fairly accurate in my testing but there are so many factors that can affect those times. I ran the gloves at the lowest setting while skiing and only cycled up to a warmer setting occasionally while on a lift or while waiting around. The batteries lasted the better part of a full ski day with a lunch break. Keep in mind, a fully depleted battery takes 4 hours to recharge. So ensure they get plugged in overnight for the next days adventure.

$200 isn’t inexpensive and it only goes up from there. Fortunately, I found them on Amazon for only $119. With 7 additional models in the line-up topping out with the HellFire Glove at $450, I’m sure you’ll find a glove for your needs.
