Adventure PrimaLoft® Jacket from 5.11 | Insulated for Adventure

December 23, 2023 by Timothy Gauthier Leave a Comment

5.11 has built its reputation on technical and tactical gear and clothing for any purpose and climate. In October, 5.11 released a new technical clothing line in partnership with PrimaLoft® Insulation. The Adventure Jacket is the men’s jacket entry into this new technical line and lives up to the “Always Be Ready” motto from 5.11.

Adventure Jacket Overview

I have been using the Adventure jacket for a month around town and walking the dog, and it has met my expectations as a 5.11 product. We have had early morning temperatures in the mid-30s here in the Pacific Northwest. However, with the Adventure, the jacket keeps the cold at bay.

Taking a closer look at the jacket, let us start at the interior. The liner’s material is made from nylon, and the interior has a stow pocket on the wearer’s right. Inside the stow pocket is a tie-down cord and an included stuff sack. Additionally, there is a shock cord system for adjusting the hem at the bottom of the Adventure jacket. The shock cord ends are in the pockets, and the adjustment buttons are sewn into the jacket next to the pockets.

Secondly, moving to the jacket’s polyester exterior, 5.11 placed the zippered hand pockets in line with the jacket’s seams, giving the jacket a clean look. The 5.11 reflective heat light transfers are on the right shoulder’s front and back sides. The Adventure Jacket’s body has 80 grams of PrimaLoft Gold insulation. In addition, the jacket has a durable water-repellent finish to resist light precipitation.

Thirdly, the Adventure jacket’s sleeve cuffs also have stretch gussets for folks who wear watches or wrist-mounted GPS units. One thing to note is that the sleeves are long on me, so I must roll them up to clear my hands. However, I do have shorter arms, too. Finally, at the jacket’s top is a hood with an elastic opening and chin guard. Also, both the hood and sleeves have 60 grams of PrimaLoft insulation.

Final Thoughts

The Adventure Jacket is splendid to have on the trail or in town. The jacket is light and can be packed small enough to carry stowed during a backpacking trip to wear once camp is set up for the night. Additionally, the Adventure would also work well as part of a vehicle emergency kit to keep warm during cold weather or as part of a get-home bag. The Adventure will be my pick for colder weather in the Northwest in the fall and winter.
