Defend against the harmful effects of mosquitoes without messy sprays or lotions: Shop Thermacell Zone Mosquito Repellent Now

Living in New Jersey for the past forty years I’ve come to believe that the state bird is in fact the mosquito. Never has this been more apparent then when I moved to a new home located in a much more woodsy area on the edge of the New Jersey Pine Barrens. Home of the Jersey Devil. Just outside my back door (and front) is a huge tract of woods and wetlands with a matching population of critters and insects. One of which is the dreaded mosquito, which has made enjoying the yard in the evening a bit challenging. Not wanting to bath daily in DEET, I’ve tried a number of alternative products. All with limited success including; candles, sprays, and Citronella Tiki torches. So when the opportunity to test and review the new Thermacell Radius Zone Mosquito Repellent, I jumped on it.

The Thermacell Radius Zone Mosquito Repellent is a small rechargeable mosquito repellant device. Where it differs from their other products is its use of scentless cartridges designed to last up to twelve hours and cover an area of 110 square feet. The device was well packaged with easy to follow directions. Plus, I received two additional cartridge refills for it. Following the directions I charged the unit for five hours to ensure it was fully charged. The Radius will operate up to 6.5 hours on a single charge and can even be used while charging. Additionally, the Radius is TSA compliant for those interested in traveling with it.

I first removed the cover from the cartridge and placed it in the unit. Setting the Radius in my backyard and allowing it to sit for fifteen minutes to allow it to develop an envelope of protection. During the course of the evening my girlfriend and I spent intervals of fifteen minutes to an hour outside. Both sitting and standing within ten feet of the unit. We repeated this process on two nights. One in the backyard and one in the front. There was no detected odor or noise coming from the unit which was very pleasing.

Final thoughts:

Our reactions are a bit mixed on the effectiveness of the unit. I felt that the instances of feeling, hearing, and being bitten was notably reduced. While my girlfriend felt that she was bitten more than usual. As a result we don’t have a consensus on the effectiveness as a standalone device against mosquitoes. I will give it a test run using the Radius in conjunction with another repellent and provide a follow up article shortly. Stay tuned…
