5.11’s Low-Vis Tactical Sneaker | Norris Low

March 14, 2023 by Erik Meisner Leave a Comment

Norris Low

When the high-top Norris sneaker was first introduced by 5.11 Tactical awhile back, we were one of the first to get our hands on a pair and post a review. Now they’ve chopped the top and are pushing the new Norris Low Sneaker. Not much has changed in build and materials other than the obvious. But this casual shoe still has a few nice features baked in.

“The Norris Low features a durable suede and nylon upper that pairs well with jeans, chinos and 5.11 Pants.” ~511tactical.com

Appearing more like an old-school canvas sneaker, this Norris cleverly hides its true identity. Starting at the bottom is the unique Vibram Marbrani outsole. At first glance, I didn’t give this sole much thought. Nor did I think it would grip as well as it actually does. Vibrams use of multiple rubber compounds coupled with a pattern of tiny sipes allow this sneaker to keep you sure-footed in wet urban conditions. Additionally, the Norris Sneaker is ASTM F2413-11 PR certified for puncture resistance. A super-strong Welmax board can withstand up to 1,200 newtons of force. A perfect option for undercover work or a security contractor trying to maintain a low profile.

  • Ortholite® insole
  • ASTM F2413-11 PR: Puncture Resistant certified for added protection
  • A.C.T. Fit
  • MSRP $100

Final Thoughts:

I’ve been using the Norris Sneaker on and off for a few months now and have no major complaints. It’s an urban warrior with a retro Chuck Taylor vibe. This new low-top sneaker is a great daily driver that can perform when asked to. Between the Low and High-top Norris, I think I’m beginning to prefer the low version. I can’t tell if the shoe is any wider but the Low-top Norris seems to be a tad more comfortable the longer I wear them. I also like the look of the Gum sole over the all black look of my alternate pair.

Norris Low

The quality material used, plentiful stitching and baked in subtle features make the Norris a great choice. Available in Men’s size 4 to 13 and offered in a black or coyote upper with a gum sole for $100.
