The 5.11 Tactical PL 2AAA EDC Flashlight

August 7, 2023 by Travis Pike Leave a Comment

When it comes to your EDC one of the most ignored items is a light. I get it, a gun, a folding EDC knife, possibly a multitool, a reload, keys, cell phone, and more can fill your pockets up fast.

With that in mind and my own hatred of full pockets, I picked up a 5.11 EDC PL 2AAA flashlight a couple of years ago and it’s served me well since then. PL 2AAA stands for Penlight and 2AAA means the light takes two AAA batteries. It’s sweet and simple.

The 5.11 EDC PL 2AAA is a small and very affordable flashlight that’s an awesome EDC tool.

Getting Robust

The 5.11 EDC PL 2AAA is a robust light made from aluminum and machined into shape.

This little light is very robust and quite durable. I’ve owned mine for quite some time now and it’s been dropped, kicked, rained on, thrown, and abused in just about every way imaginable and it keeps on keeping on.

The finish has taken a hit or two, but that’s it. The light is rated for impact resistance up to 2 meters and IPX-4 splash resistance.

The machined design incorporates several indentations that aid in providing an excellent grip to the light and this keeps it from moving or sliding in your hands. It has a removable pocket clip, but sadly it can’t be rotated.

It has a short bevel to protect the glass lens of your light and keep it from cracking or breaking. If you take a good look at mine you’ll see that it works and saves your glass.

The PL 2AAA Power

It’s a small EDC flashlight, but it is capable of admitting 107 lumens of light with a beam distance of about 26 meters. A lot of lights exaggerate their beam distance a bit or use perfect conditions to test it.

However, I find the light’s reported distance to be very accurate and modest. The light will also reportedly run for 4 hours and 20 minutes. I’ve never tested this but it sounds accurate.

It’s a handy little light that’s well-built and quite durable. It’s also small at only 5 inches long and .66 inches in diameter. It’s unobtrusive and rubs shoulders with my pocket knife and keys daily.
