5.11 Everyday Gift Set | A Perfect Holiday Gift for Anyone

December 18, 2024 by Art Dorst Leave a Comment

The 5.11 Everyday Gift Set is a limited edition two-knife set for 2024. The set contains an Icarus DP Full and a Base 3DP. Both are folding knives which would make great everyday carry blades for anyone. The Icarus DP has a 3.5” blade with a drop point and FRN textured scales. The Base DP is the smaller partner with a 2.75” blade with a thin compact steel handle. Both blades lock into place with a frame lock mechanism and are made from 8CR13MOV steel.

The pocket clip on both knives allows for deep pocket carry which is my preferred style with a folding knife for pocket carry. I don’t like a noticeable piece of the knife extending up from my pocket while carrying it. The Icarus is designed for tip-up carry, again this is my preferred style. This way the thumb stud is right there for quick opening when it is withdrawn from the pocket. While the Base 3DP is tip-up. The pocket clip on the Icarus DP is reversible which is a plus for lefties.

Fit and finish is exceptionally good on both knives out of the package. And the Icarus DP feels particularly good in my large hand, allowing for smooth easy opening. I also appreciate the light weight of the Icarus DP. The Base DP’s smaller size requires a little more focus for me due to the smaller size. The handles on the Icarus DP are a dark green while the steel handles of the Base DP are black.

Both 5.11 knives have managed all the basic chores that an EDC knife would be expected to do, including package opening, cutting strings and line, opening bags of bird feed, and deer corn. Either of these knives would make great daily carry knives capable of managing all the usual daily knife-cutting chores and even heavier-duty work. I particularly like the lightweight, low profile, and quality of these knives. I think these would make a great parent-child combination for camping and everyday use. MSRP is $40.00.
