5.11 Deploy Tl-USB Flashlight – Quality Light in the Dark

March 15, 2025 by Art Dorst Leave a Comment

For the past few weeks, I’ve been using the 5.11 Deploy Tl-USB Flashlight on a fore watch job on a construction site. My shift was the 1800 – 0600 shift. Our responsibility is to ensure that no fires start and that various equipment on the site continues running all night. The location is in an area of questionable safety. Other than the ambient light from the surrounding area, there is no lighting on site. The site is your typical construction site with materials, trash, churned up dirt, and equipment strewn about, making walking around in the dark a challenge.

I received the 5.11 Deploy Tl-USB Flashlight for testing and evaluation (T&E), and this was the perfect laboratory to do it. The 5.11 Deploy Tl-USB Flashlight is made from aerospace machined aluminum with built-in texture, it boasts a one thousand lumen output with a 100-meter throw distance, is rechargeable using a 1650mAh Lithium Battery, and has a button activation in the tail.

Here are the details from the 5.11 website:

  • Removable 2-piece tail switch guard design for four different tail switch guard configurations
  • USB-C input
  • Dimensions 4.875″L x 1.25″W x .625″Thick
  • Dual switch – Tail: Off/ High/ Medium/ Low with momentary on // Body: Battery Level Indicator
  • 4-bar bi-color charging/battery level indicator
  • Three modes: High, Medium, Low
  • High Mode: 1000 lm, 1H 10M, 100m, 2540cd
  • Med Mode: 500 lm, 2H 0M, 65m, 1180cd
  • Low Mode: 80 lm, 7H 0M, 25m, 150cd
  • Removable clip with two different available height settings
  • Impact resistant 1.0m
  • MSRP: $80

The flat design of the Deploy Tl-USB makes it a pleasure to carry in your pocket and easily fits into the smaller pockets designed for carrying folding knives. The high beam is powerful enough to illuminate the darkest areas and the low setting is perfect for jotting down log entries while not blinding you. The clip is strong and never fails to keep the light in place during the twelve-hour shifts. The battery stayed strong through the whole shift, with plenty of juice in it to continue being used before needing a charge.

This is one of the first rechargeable flashlights I’ve used for professional usage and I really like the fact that if needed, I could just plug it into the vehicle port or a charging brick to power it back up. No need to carry extra batteries. During my testing of the Deploy Tl-USB I accidentally dropped it on concrete, dirt, and once into a puddle during a particularly stormy night. Nothing seemed to have any effect on it including a few nights where the temperature was right around five degrees out.

The 5.11 Deploy Tl-USB Flashlight is an excellent quality option for those looking for a strong pocket carry flashlight for professional or personal use. The flat design and multiple levels of brightness make this a flexible, easy to carry tool. The current MSRP is $80.00

I would like to thank 5.11 for providing the 5.11 Deploy Tl-USB Flashlight for T&E.
