Best Pistol Light: OLIGHT PL-Pro Valkyrie (Review)

June 28, 2023 by Erik Meisner 2 Comments

The PL-PRO Valkyrie is the rechargeable version of the best-selling pistol light PL-2. Powered by a built-in rechargeable battery, the PL-PRO delivers two adjustable outputs; 1,500 and 300 lumens.

If you’re looking for the best pistol light and don’t want to break the bank, check out the PL-PRO Valkyrie from Olight.1500 lumens and a 280-meter throw for only $129.95? Yes, please!

Although we were issued Surefire lights while assigned to the 2nd Ranger Battalion, I’m not crazy about spending almost 3 times more for a comparable light.

Olight fills a big void between premium lights and the Amazon special. Built with high-quality materials and features, the PL-PRO fits my needs for a “house gun”.

By “house gun”, I mean a readily accessible firearm when something goes bump in the night. For me, that’s the FNX Tactical with 15+1 of Federal Hydra-Shok JHP 165 Grain .45ACP. Upgrading from an older 800 Lumen Streamlight, the new 1500 Lumen PL-PRO almost doubles the amount of illumination.

Helping to both identify and stun a potential intruder. While lighting up an entire room with ease. Ambidextrous buttons trigger the light on and off, as well as toggle between high (1500Lm) and low (300Lm). Pressing both buttons simultaneously activates a seizure-inducing strobe feature.

Powered by a built-in 900mAh 3.6V lithium polymer battery, the PL-PRO lights up for 1.5 minutes at 1500 lumens. Then it automatically kicks down to 600 lumens for 45 minutes. If the 300-lumen low setting is selected, you can achieve 90 minutes of burn time.

Since the battery is built-in, a clever magnetic USB charging cable is included for foolproof charging. Additionally, the magnetic base on the PL-PRO can be used for an optional remote pressure switch. Making this light suitable for long-gun operations as well.

Final Thoughts

I own several Olight weapon lights and so far, I’ve had zero issues with them. From the Baldr-PRO on my Glock 17 to the RL-MINI on my Glock 19, these lights hold up great. I have no doubt that the PL-PRO Valkyrie will serve its purpose on my “house gun” for years to come.

Thanks for the review. Would you know if this light would hang on Picatinny mounted on a 20 ga shotgun? Joe
