Streamlight Protac 1L-1AA: A Police Officers Perspective

December 10, 2023 by Guest Writer Leave a Comment

Streamlight Protac 1L-1AA: A Police Officers Perspective

As a seasoned night shift police officer with over a decade of experience, I’ve learned the importance of being well-equipped with reliable gear, especially when it comes to flashlights.

Working in unpredictable environments, whether tracking suspects through dense woods or managing incidents on busy highways, underscores the need for dependable lighting.

My standard equipment includes the Streamlight PolyStinger DS LED and the Streamlight Strion LED, but I’ve always sought a high-quality, compact backup light.

After extensive research and considering various brands, including SureFire and Fenix, I selected the Streamlight ProTac1L-1AA for its remarkable balance of size, durability, and performance. Streamlight’s reputation for manufacturing durable, feature-rich lights at an affordable price, especially relevant on a police officer’s budget, played a significant role in this decision.

The ProTac1L-1AA has been a game-changer in my gear lineup. Its ultra-compact design, exceptional light output, and use of a single CR123 battery make it an ideal choice. Despite not being rechargeable—a feature I value in my primary lights—its long shelf life and minimal weight (a mere 1.81 oz without the pocket clip) make it an easy addition to my already heavy gear.

Durability is crucial for any equipment I carry on duty. The ProTac1L-1AA’s rugged, waterproof design has withstood numerous drops and impacts without faltering. Its tailcap switch, similar in quality to my other Streamlight models, offers ease of use, especially in high-pressure situations where I may need to operate it alongside a weapon.

An interesting aspect of this light is its “Ten Tap Programming” feature, allowing me to customize its settings. I prefer keeping it on the ‘High’ setting for maximum output, although options for a ‘Low’ mode and ‘Strobe’ are available.

In the real-world application, the ProTac1L-1AA’s beam pattern impresses. The balance between a concentrated hotspot and sufficient spillover provides optimal illumination for a light of its size. The non-adjustable beam, a design choice that ensures waterproof integrity, suits the light’s intended use perfectly.

Overall, the Streamlight ProTac1L-1AA has proven itself as more than just a backup light. It’s a versatile tool that I now carry off-duty and use for various tasks at home or in the garage. Its reliability, size, and performance make it a valuable addition to any kit. As a testament to its utility, I plan to acquire more units for personal and professional use, ensuring that I’m never without this exceptional light, no matter the situation.
