FILSON Clothing – Rugged Quality for over 120 years

November 7, 2023 by Erik Meisner Leave a Comment

For over 120 years, C.C. FILSON has been outfitting prospectors, anglers, hunters and the like. Pioneering his way to Seattle in the late 1800’s his timing was impeccable. With the Great Klondike Gold Rush kicking off in 1897, Seattle was the hub for prospectors heading north to Alaska. Stocking up with provisions, FILSON was poised to stake a claim offering high quality goods that would prove to be essential in the Klondike.

From the C.C. Filson Catalog circa 1914:

“To our customers: if a man is going North, he should come to us for his outfit, because we have obtained our ideas of what is best to wear in that country from the experience of the man from the North — not merely one — but hundreds of them. Our materials are the very best obtainable, for we know that the best is none too good and that quality is of vital importance. You can depend absolutely upon our goods both as to material and workmanship.”

Fast forward a century or so and they’re still at it. Now the focus is more focused on the modern outdoorsman with a flair for classic lines. After meeting with Filson at SHOT Show and perusing the various pants, shirts and accessories in the booth, I figured it’s time to share this proven company with the readers of The Gear Bunker.

Dry Tin 5 Pocket Pant

Made from Filson’s strongest cotton fabric, the Dry Tin 5 Pocket Pant is made for jobs that don’t require waterproofness. Filson’s dry finish Tin Cloth is the unwaxed version of their famous oil finish Tin Cloth. But offers air exchange in the warmer months. The fabric is pretty stiff out of the package but with regular use and washing, they start to soften up. Reinforced with additional fabric in the pockets as well as the back of the hem, the Dry Tin 5 Pocket Pant will last longer than your standard jeans.

  • Dry finish Tin Cloth is breathable and highly abrasion-resistant
  • Zippered fly with metal-shank button waist closure
  • Curved-entry front pocket and patch rear pockets
  • Rear hems and front and rear pockets reinforced with double-layer fabric
  • Reinforcing rivets at stress points
  • Fabric: 11.5-oz. 100% cotton dry finish Tin Cloth
  • Usage: Field, Workwear, Everyday
  • MSRP $155

Scout Shirt

A perfect compliment to the Dry Tin Pants, the Scout Shirt is a versatile garment suited for year round use. Pleated shoulders allow freedom of movement in an area that most manufactures neglect. It’s a shirt I regularly wear to the job site because of this feature. As well, I wear this shirt while Overland camping. In warmer climates, the Scout Shirt breathes enough to stay comfortable, while also taking the nip off in a cooler environment. The plaids offered by Filson maintain a classic look and the garments fit true to size.

  • Yarn-dyed fabric resists fading
  • Button-front closure with spread collar
  • Two chest pockets with button-flap closure
  • Button-adjustable cuffs
  • Durable, military-grade melamine buttons
  • Fabric: 4-oz. 100% cotton twill
  • Usage: Field, Workwear, Everyday
  • MSRP $115
