Meet the Founders
Scott Witner

Scott Witner grew up in Northeastern Ohio and currently resides there with his wife and two daughters. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in January 1993, serving four years on active duty before separating in February 1997. During his service, Scott was an Infantry Mortarman assigned to an 81mm mortar platoon and completed advanced field and warfare training in diverse environments across the U.S. and overseas; experiences that instilled a disciplined, results-driven approach that continues to shape his work today.
After leaving the military, Scott transitioned into the corporate world before ultimately building a career in digital media, SEO, and content strategy. For more than a decade, he has worked across the firearms, tactical, and outdoor industries, partnering with brands to grow organic traffic and to turn clicks into customers and content into revenue.
Scott specializes in creating high-performing content that not only ranks in search engines but also converts. His experience spans long-form editorial content, product pages, press releases, and AI-optimized assets designed for today’s evolving search landscape. Every piece of content is built to support clear business objectives, not vanity metrics.
He stays ahead of Google’s algorithm updates and emerging AI-driven discovery by using industry-leading tools such as Ahrefs, SEMrush, Google Search Console, Screaming Frog, and ChatGPT to deliver measurable, ethical results at scale. This data-driven approach enables Scott to help brands transform their websites into lead-generating, revenue-driving assets while maintaining credibility in highly regulated and enthusiast-driven markets.
Today, through The Gear Bunker, Scott applies that experience to help brands improve visibility, authority, and performance across traditional search and modern AI platforms, including ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews.
Erik Meisner

Erik Meisner’s early years were spent traveling the US and Europe due to his father’s 27-year military career. This upbringing exposed him to various cultures and the military lifestyle, sparking an early fascination with the armed forces. In his early 20s, Erik joined the Army, completing Basic Training, AIT, Airborne School, and the Ranger Indoctrination Program before being assigned to the 2nd Ranger Battalion at Fort Lewis.
The relentless training and deployment cycles in the Ranger Regiment, coupled with leadership from figures like retired General Stanley McChrystal, shaped Erik’s resilience and expertise. His squad leaders, who later ascended to high-ranking positions, also influenced his development.
Several years ago, Erik was approached by a fellow Ranger managing The Loadout Room, a veteran-run site dedicated to tactical and outdoor gear reviews. He joined the team and met Scott Witner, with whom he shared a vision for expanding the site’s reach. Together, they built strong relationships with manufacturers and PR professionals by attending industry events, significantly growing the site’s content and audience.
After departing from The Loadout Room, Erik and Scott recognized a void and decided to launch their own gear review site. Committed to maintaining an all-veteran team, they swiftly set up the business, covering all operational costs themselves. Their combined military experience and industry knowledge ensure that their reviews are both credible and comprehensive.
