Living life sand free with the CGEAR Sand-Free Beach Towel

February 3, 2022 by Erik Meisner Leave a Comment

Living in Northern Michigan, it’s hard to test out a Sand-Free Beach Towel from CGEAR this time of year. 120″+ of snow and frozen lakes kind of shut down the beaches here. Fortunately, we escape this mess each winter by traveling. Sometimes to go skiing, other times to recharge our depleted vitamin D levels. This year, we favored warmth and decided to explore the Spice Island of Grenada. This volcanic island in the Eastern Caribbean features warm waters and fine sand beaches bracketed by rocky peninsulas. The perfect location to try out this sand free technology.

How it works

CGEAR uses their patented two layer design in all of the products to give sand a one way ticket through the material. This dual layer, loosely woven polyester allows sand to migrate from top to bottom yet prevents back migration. The Sand-Free Beach Towel we used in Grenada was a nice to lay on the beach as well as dry of after a swim. With a quick brush of the hand, my sandy footprints disappeared into the fabric and back onto the beach. Additionally, I could just pick the towel up off the sand, give it one flap and all the sand flew off.

Other nice features of the loose woven dual layer construction is rapid drying times. With so much of each thread exposed to air, the fabric dries quicker than anything I’ve used before. Plus, it’s not like a big fluffy cotton beach towel. This fabric is very low profile and packs up quite small. It took up about as much space in my carry-on as one long sleeve shirt. I’m pretty conscious about what I pack and the CGEAR Sand-Free Beach Towel is travel approved in my book.

Final Thoughts:

One of my only concerns was if this uber loose polyester fabric could actually dry me off. After a week of SCUBA diving, beach going and hiking to remote waterfalls, I’m happy to report that the Sand-Free Towel is a “go” at all stations. After use, I felt comfortable packing the damp towel into my backpack. It never felt soaking wet like a cotton towel would in the same circumstances.

“Originally developed for helicopters, CGEAR’s patented dual-layer weave ensured protection from dust clouds and wayward grit during landing. Now, that same technology has been cleverly adapted for everyday use. The straightforward utilitarian design works to ensure sand and dirt end up exactly where they belong: on the ground.” – cgear-sandfree.com
